Sorry, but if someone comes across as a genuine ass online, I'd generally anticipate that to be the case IRL.

This is somewhat true. Text is two dimensional and emotions and tone can be difficult to decipher. But a misunderstanding about emotion is quite a bit different than physical threats.Originally posted by MetaMan

in some rare cases when someone is trying to be funny, it could be missunderstood online. There is a reason why there are ICONS here as well. if you saying something or joking with them there are visuals you can use to help make sure you are not missunderstood. However that is not what this thread is about. There is no missunderstanding someone online when they say they are going to put a slug in you or punch you in your jaw when they see you or they call you a pedo.
