Read at new.net , it seems they are establishing a parallel system to ICANN , and they are offering extensions like .xxx , .free , .shop etc

But there is a problem, For somebody to access these extensions a plugin has to be downloaded.

Not a very good idea imo , As they have stated very clearly that although hey are trying to get their extensins approved, but its upto icann.

There will be whole lot of problems with these extensions in promoting and marketing websites on these domains. Means much more effort and little profit.

Had this extension been approved by icann and if reachable by everybody, it would have rocked. and moreover you never someday icann will launch its own similar extensions.
