Im not sure - I will be renting for the first x amount of time until I can get rid of my stuff in London. Then hopefuly I can pay cash for something.

It's far cheaper to get external finance woj - the interest rates here are very high and inclined towards the short term (ten years etc) - that is, if you can find a lender - they prefer to deal with residents - but anything is possible.

A couple of companies have started offering mortgages at US rates to US citizens - so may be an option.

As far as I've been told, in most cases your US credit rating doesn't mean shit (depending on the lender). Bring cash and lots of it

My problem with Manuel Antonio is you don't actually get to be anywhere near a beach... Sure you get gorgeous views but I'd feel cheated if I paid that much for a "beach house" and had to get in my car and drive down to the beach and park on the side of the road every day.

Sure is a lump just for living in - tho maybe OK as a corporate home. There are plenty very nice homes around the Pacific coast of CR far less than that - tho plenty at far more as well.

It's not exactly the type of property you buy on a mortgage - definately cash down

Still thinking on this, but seems that price level would average roughly from $450K to a mill+, but plenty leeway on the upper end, tho inclined to take longer to sell.

100% correct in that man - it's ambiance and emotion folks base their purchasing decisions on. Give folks an evironment that is kinda special and they love it. It's the same when it comes to investment in land - they see all the nice furry critters with human attributes and dump $500K on the table - always amazes me

This was so damned bad, I pulled the reigns in on some folks where it was blatantly clear they were gushing with emotion more than sense, and cut down their investment level. Although it's nice to have investors - its not really in their best interests sometimes. Got one couple last week who wanted to invest up to the hilt of their asset value. Why? Because they like diving and swimming with dolphins in a clear warm ocean - ie the dolphins were cute No thanks - cut the investment down, - no need for that level.

Won't laugh at shareholders, but hell, they can be funny as hell. One woman (a well-known jazz singer), nicknamed her "The Monkey Lady" who never did anything but chat with the monkeys. Fine, but when ya got to get a search party out at 10 at night and start roaming the rainforest trying to find her, and on the verge of pulling in the police for help - that gets boring We found her in the end - time mean't nothing to her - she was still chatting with the monkeys in the dark of course. People!! They gotta be saved from themselves sometimes
