Beccause most straight guys don't understand what triggers gay customers. I have heard this over and over. I would rather work with someone who is gay, or someone who really does understand the market and not just a company whipping sites together with no clue.

In my experience it really makes no difference if the designer is straight or gay. A designer's job is to turn your ideas and vision into reality. I know for a fact some of the top gay sites on the web were designed by straight individuals. Our designer is straight as well. You may have to coach a straight designer a bit more in the beginning and help them with selecting photos, but once they have an idea what you want they are usually quick learners.

I agree, not sure a gay designer is the key. My main designer is straight although I have started to ask some questions based on how good he has gotten at choosing hot photos. But I think that is a matter of training over time, and he has pretty much learned what we are looking for so he know what we expect.

However, when it comes to writing, I do suggest that you find someone gay to do it. I have seen some things that come across as highly offensive to gay people and the guys writing it thought it was really hot. A gay writer for sure, or at least someone really familiar with the gay market.
