    Dull kitchen knives...

May be more dangerous and the user may be more prone to cutting themselves. But let me tell you a sharp kitchen knife will cut the fuck out of you with much less effort and cause a much deeper and longer slice in your hand.

Second issue, pushing in a wheelchair with a bandaged up hand is far from easy.

Third issue, getting used to a laptop keyboard is one thing. Now having a near imobile hand really makes typing suck.

Lastly, despite if you get medical supplies all the time and you are bleeding all over the place and can not find your damn bandages, some medical tape and a tampon makes a fine substitute.

P.S. Wound size and pain are not porportional it seems. I thought I just knicked myself when I did it cause there was little to no pain, well lets just say that was not the case.

Ah shit, that musta hurt. I cut my thumb this summer with a knife when I was making a sandwich, it hurt like hell and it was just a small cut. That's gotta hurt.

No, and that is what I am suprised about. It is about an inch long, 1/8th to maybe 1/4 inch slice (deepish) across the fleshy area under your thumb near the palm pad. Only felt a tiny nick, hurt more washing it. No real pain right now. Thumb feels fine, full movement, can feel all of it etc so I know its not some nerve issue either.

              Huh?

It is more of my typing speed that is effected. More typos I have to correct, and it takes me a lot longer to type. The first post in this thread would normally take me maybe 30 seconds max. with some distractions. It took me about 2 minutes to type it.

ha reminds me of dropping a ceramic knife out of a knife block and trying to catch it because it was an expensive knife. No pain, but many stitches and slight nerve damage.

I prolly should go get stitches, not gunna though. Do to location and me pushing around and such I would just tear them out in a day or so by accident. Plus I do not need another damn hospital bill, specially for something like this. I have treated enough wounds to know how to handle it and a little latter I will put either some butterflys on it or use some superglue.

The knives? About 40-120 each, the paring knife was 45 if I remember.
Got them from a local kitchen store.

But on another note, this thread has nothing on RedShoe's one where he removed a hang nail. Well, I think it was RedShoe. Whatever. There were pics involved and it wasn't pretty.

Yeah no shit that was brutal. I couldnt find my bandages and ended up using a tampon so what do you think my chances of finding my camera bag, it having charged batteries, and getting the card into it while leaking blood everywhere.

I'd rather cut the fuck out my hand with a very sharp than a small cut with a dull knife.

Sharp knives slice and actually cut while a dull knife is more likely to tear and rip skin. Straight slices from a sharp knife heal faster, are much less likely to leave a nasty scar, and imho hurt a lot less.

I grew up collecting/playing with all sorts of knives both dull and very sharp so I've had my fair of slices.

if you were using the knife properly you wouldn't have gotten cut in the first place.

Actually I was using it properly. I am very well trained in kitchen knife usage. This was purely an accident that happened when the knife went away from a thicker material to a less dense area. Very little pressure was being used and I was holding everything properly. This is the first time I have cut myself on a kitchen knife in over a decade, and the last time I did it was when I dropped a knife and it hit my leg.

I was looking in every drawer in the bathroom. Couldnt find crap. First aid kit was missing as well (fiance took it outside apparently). Saw some tape and then the pack of tampons so I figured what the fuck, they looked easy enough to open with one hand. Which is not true if you try to pull it out from the wrong end. Honestly I had a choice between cotton balls and the tampon but I relized cotton balls would stick like crazy.

You went with the only solution engineered to soak up blood. I think it was a wise move, considering others would wast their time on wrapping a ton of toilette paper around their damage. Only to realize they have to pick a bunch of toilette paper pieces out of their wound at a later time (or, like you said, cotton-ball threads).
