I think the Modern Affective Neuroscience can explain what happen to your body pretty well. Some modern studies point to the mechanism that your body unleash when you find yourself under the feeling of fear, stress or anger. Your blood pressure raises, the muscles get stronger (by the instant discharge of adrenalin), you get more sensitive and your body more powerful.
This is how the evolution found a way to prepare you to face the most dangerous situation that could show up. If you want to know more, please, check for those books:

Finally, if you want to control this body reaction and train your body, mind and spirit to develop a superior fight skill, you do this:
Jiu Jitsu works in your body and mind in a way you will feel always tranquil in a situation of stress or fear in a duel, will make your body stronger. believe me, it have been changing lifes of many fat asses around the world.
This is my coin dude!
