Who here is First Aid/CPR certified?

because of various jobs of varied responsibilities, I have been First Aid/CPR certified on and off for the last 10 years.

Great to know how to take care of yourself and others in an emergency. Used infant CPR on my baby girl when we had just brought her home, paramedics got there quick but I probably saved her life. I dont think about it much, just glad shes alive and healthy today.

Anyone else had to use your training or witness someone using CPR/First Aid?

My husband and I had to get certified when we brought our baby home. He was premature and I guess it is some newer policy the hospital requires before the parents can take home a premie. Luckily we've never had to use it.

I used to work in a hospital when I was young- as part of the training I had to do paramedic level first aid .. dont know if it's the same levels etc s in the US.. but i oz it's more advanced than general first aid..

my biggest problem was that I have a "problem" that when i hear stuff that FREAKS me out i LAUGH.... nervous reaction I guess..
so our trainer would be talking about people getting their eyeballs poked out with a pen.. and i'd be in hysterics almost literally rolling on the floor .. with everyone else looking at me like i was mad!

my training has come in handy a few times and the few times i've had to call 911 i've been able to give a pretty good idea to the guys at the other end what to expect when they get there, while keeping shit together at scene.

Ours wasn't premature, but we felt it was a good idea anyway to get first aid/cpr training including infant cpr.

We'll be going back again soon just to do it as a refresher and plan to continue it for quite some time.

If you are interested, I have heard you can call a firestation and ask if they can have someone teach a first aid/CPR class.. I've heard they are even happier to do it if you can get 5-10 people to go with you.

Yeah it is a good idea with little ones. We have the instruction booklet and go over it once in a while and practice on a doll. Taking a refresher class is a good idea though.

For us, our job requires that we are certified because of our students on our ranges. Just on Tuesday we had a kid catch a piece of hot brass in his eye. But luckly no has been shot, YET!

I know someone that holds the classes, what a fucking racket.
50.00 to 100.00 per person for an afternoon class. Minimum class size is like 10 people, ussually had 20+.

Requirements are just a first aid cpr teachers certificate, a cpr doll or two, and a few office items, combined with a cheap meeting area.

I was first certified in '84 in both CPR and first aid as a prerequisite for the job I later got at a local hospital. As a job requirement I had to be recirtified every 1-2 years after that, the last time I did so was in the mid 90's.

More people should get the training, it takes like 4-8 hours over 1-2 days depending on the course, and costs very little.

Because... standing there like a helpless idiot while your wife or husband or mother or father dies of a heart attack while you wait for an ambulance and knowing you could have done something to help but were too lazy to take a 1 day course...... well, that would suck wouldn't it?
