I'd really love to get you on the MA board Dunefiled...
An excerpt from the quote of yours I posted...
*sigh* i really wasn't anything less from people like that... i mean you still haven't realised what i'm trying to bring up regarding the whole CULTURAL aspect and how it's not a .VS thing...
Yup I see the difference but once again because of the style and type of competition... However if Barnett goes into a grappling match and puts on a chicken wing how exactly was he TRAINED in BJJ...
Okay, let me give you an explanation from my life.
One of my close friends runs a MMA school in Santa Barbara. I learned how to do a achilles lock from Rener the week before, I catch him in one (He let me), he gets out of it.
His backround is Sambo, which are known for their leg locks. He teaches me another variation that makes it harder to escape, which included, me instead of falling backwards to get the achilles lock, was to fall to his inside leg and change my position.
This is how people learn. It is no longer CACC which Barnett does, or BJJ like Nog, it is MMA.
The Anaconda that Nog pulls off isnt' BJJ, it's wrestling, and I could on and on about how everything now is a mixture of techniques.
I think you are mistaking that BJJ is the actual techniques.
BJJ is positional dominance using body mechanices to achieve superior technique.

Okay, here's the ending to this point.
If it's SUBMISSION GRAPPLING, MMA, SHOOTO, or WHATEVER...
EVERYONE NOW DOES IT THE BJJ WAY
Why?
Because it is MORE SUCCESSFUL than the other two methods!

i actually made a post earlier saying pretty much what you said "This is how people learn. It is no longer CACC which Barnett does, or BJJ like Nog, it is MMA." It all falls under the term grappling... Go to the 2nd page...

If you read some posts after that, I corrected you with the proper term.

"Submission Wrestling"
Yup... You got me there...
But back to the issue regarding MARTIAL ARTS... You still are going on about whats effective and not understand there are other elements involved... I can't believe even after 4 pages you still haven't realised it's not all about bashing peoples heads in or whats effective in combat...

It's the diametric opposite for me.
I can't believe that after 4 pages you still haven't realised that the Martial Arts should be about learning and training in the most effective way to win and end a fight.
But I can respect your views, I had them at one time.

I can't believe that 4 pages in you still haven't realized that you have been raped, sodomized and totally owned in every possible way.
oh wait, you're a ninja.
Question 4 u dunefield: Is Bruce Lee the greatest fighter who ever lived and ever WILL live?
"Ray says, "Roots are very important to me because I believe that continuity of training with knowledgable Senseis is the very foundationstone of good karate. I am extremely fortunate to be a member of the reknowned British Tradtional Karate Association and also to have Senseis Pellitt, Smith and Thompson continuing to act as my instructors and guides"."
I'm sure that will comfort Ray as he's being triangled to sleep by some 140 lb BJJ blue belt.
I don't think Ray really cares about being put in a triangle...
I got my black belt at age 12. My youth was spent inside a studio's across canada. I dont like to talk about it nor do I ever admit to it. I suck now so yes any clown can kick my ass.
My dad is 5th degree and still trains to this very day and runs his dojo's. Sister is 1st degree and my mom has her second in Isshin Ryu Karate.
For me I was #3rd in North Ameica for Sparring at age 14
My own school at 16.
17 years old got sent Palm Springs to start traning to run a school full time. Met the big player's in the biz.
6 months later met the wrong group of people.
The rest runs like a VH1 special. partying ego's girls etc.
I never trained again and i know it burns a hole in my dad's heart.
I have no interest in anything by watching MMA fights and capoeira.
Anthony's asain and trains in BBJ so he think's he knows it all. PPFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

...but it seems you can't grasp the fact people do other martial arts because of interests....[they want something else out of it other than just being adapt at beating the shit out of people]...
Damn.
Beat me to it.
Had to add my own to your quote though.

If you had spent that much time training BJJ you would STILL be dangerous dwreck, but by your own admission any clown can pick you up at a party and throw you thru a window. What's the point of training at all then?
Ray SHOULD care, if he's making a living out of teaching people to defend themselves.
Answer the question: IS Bruce Lee the greatest possible fighter of all time or is he NOT?
Why should Ray care? He's teaching his students the "ART" of Karate... I'm sorry but if you think Martial Arts is all about knowing how to bash a guy up please read "again" regarding the cultural aspects...
And no Bruce Lee is not the greatest fighter of all time...
Now answer a question for me...
Is it wrong to do a martial art like capoeira or tai chi?

No, it's not wrong to take them if you want to learn how to do those particular arts, and yes, it is ABSOLUTELY morally and financially wrong to to take someone's money under the pretense of teaching them to defend themselves when you know damn well that's not happening. Tai Chi, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't market itself as a fighting art.
If Ray has spent his whole life on his karate and gets choked out by a BJJ guy who's trained for six months, then he's wasted all that time.
A false sense of confidence is a very VERY dangerous thing.
Look up the term 'martial'. If you're doing a martial art that doesn't teach you how to defend yourself, you're better off spending your time learning how to paint, draw or sell real estate.

Once again you take the term LITERALLY... Look up the word "ART"... Anthony used that same comment before...
How exactly is Ray ripping off someones money? Does he guarantee that people will win fights? You have this issue of it has to be practical...
Why do people learn how to play an instrument? Do they learn how to play so they can make millions of dollars in some kind of band later in life? Or do they do it for the enjoyment and achievement of learning something? Same thing goes with Martial Arts...

No. Find a McDojo that tells you right off the bat "This doesn't really work. It is an art and you will get your ass kicked if you get in a real fight." There are none. They make false promises and take your money.

This thread ends now.
With how it started...
Its never too late. I started Tae Kwon Do not long ago and I love it ! My kid got me in to it and I tell you what ! it?s the best work out you?ll ever have.. and you will learn how to kick some ass outside of the internet!

HAHAHAHA!!! It's usually the case of people going to a dojo and wanting to learn... Rather than some guy on TV doing a Rex Kwon Do saying their style is invincible...
I don't know what it's like in America, but down here I have never once seen a dojo advertise saying come join up now and you'll bash up Fedor...
But hey if your enjoyment is to bash peoples heads in, go for it... Other people do it for reasons of fitness, fun and interest...
Anyways time to go watch a movie... I'll be back in a few hours... I'll just copy and paste something i said earlier...

I learned the piano because my mother wanted me too.
I didn't enjoy it at all.
What's your point?
Alot of children are brought to Martial Arts School by their parents as another way of day care.
TOP LEVEL opposition... Didn't you know? All other martial arts apart from BJJ are useless... GEEZ MAN!!! All this time whilst you've been enjoying and having fun doing what you want they've been ripping you off

might as well fight me than.. i'll be 401 after the first punch
PS: I'm top level too.. Black belt in beer drinking
Why do you shy away from having this debate on a real martial arts board, where members study anything from TKD, Kung Fu, Sambo, BJJ, MMA, etc?
Would it surprise you that you cut and paste that argument about anti social bullshit that MMA versus TMA from one of the members of our Martial Arts board?
Because it was, by one of our members.
Waiting on you to hit me up on icq, and I'll give you the url to check out our discussion about your cut and paste.

I’m not going to get in to whole BJJ shit, but to me nowadays Sambo holds BBJ by its balls.
i'm talking about the people who WANT to play an instrument... you really have been slammed on your head too many times
Dude you throw out so many red herrings, it is pathetic.
Red Herring
Also Known as: Smoke Screen, Wild Goose Chase.
Description of Red Herring
A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. The basic idea is to "win" an argument by leading attention away from the argument and to another topic. This sort of "reasoning" has the following form:
1. Topic A is under discussion.
2. Topic B is introduced under the guise of being relevant to topic A (when topic B is actually not relevant to topic A).
3. Topic A is abandoned.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because merely changing the topic of discussion hardly counts as an argument against a claim.

BAHAHAHAHA!!! I copied at pasted a persons argument? I don't frequent any MMA forums apart from Sherdog to hear MMA news... Also I used to train in Shotokan Karate... And no i'm not arguing with you because I used to do Karate I'm arguing with you because it's your idea if the Martial Art isn't effective in the cage it's not worth doing...

If it werent' for the Gracies you'd still be doing your kata "Flying Dragon into Tiger Cleavage", instead of being a proper MMA fan.
Sure the Martial Arts is for all that stuff. It's what the McDojo's sold to parents, good on yours for believing it.
Look up the definition of Martial, you don't seem to know it.
If it wasn't about bashing someones head in, then the "marital arts" would be called "Yoga".
Stop it already. If you want to study Tai Chi, go right ahead and delude yourself that you can fight.
What good is practicing a punch or kick into emtpy air and thinking it will save your life one day? That's the problem with Martial Arts till BJJ came around and changed it.
From there, it's always been about fighting and learning what I needed too to win.
I think it was written by a TMA apologists myself. I'm going to take it to my MA board and see what ruckus it will start.
mind you this is the best one...
Okay, we already went around the part that most TMA's are practically worthless, right?
I can show you on TMA's boards where they go on and on that they can win a fight with a MMA fighter using Crane Sword Hand to defend a shoot, and Rose Plucked from the Sky technique to stop from getting choked.
MMA is tried, proven and has empirical data to back it up.
TMA hides behind spritual and cultural richness to make up for the lack of effectiveness.
