many dogs have suffered the loss of a limb, ive known two in my life and they were all very happy. I even saw a special on TV one time that showed a two legged dog running around, it would use a tree or wall to stand up but he was completely mobile. I thought it was a miracle at first, but hey, the will to survive is outstaning in everyone and every animal
Do all three legged dogs get renamed that? Is it some mandatory clause at the vet? Sort of from this day foward Max will not be called Tripod. Damn loosing a leg is one thing, having everyone call you a name for it is just mean.

I wouldn't think so, it's not like all dogs lose a leg right after they're born, many lose it in an accident when their a few years old. Now changing a dog's name to Tripod mid-life, that would be mean.

My moms a vet and she brings home all sorts of retarted animals and once they have left their abusive owners and join the other in her care Ive never seen these animals (dogs, cats, birds, etc) more happier.
I called my friends with the dog and here's the story.
Their next door neighbor was an elderly farmer. The dog just showed one day after he had buried his wife. "Tripod" was just a puppy and was in very bad shape. The vet suggested he be put down, but the farmer insisted he try to save him (which included cutting off the puppy's infected leg). When the puppy regained it's health, the farmer went to pick up the puppy and found out the vet staff called him Tripod.
The farmer and Tripod were inseparable until he passed away 4 years ago. On his death bed he made my friends promise to take care of the dog (who they already loved).
They said the dog howled in grief for days which is a great insight that animals can have those kind of emotions.
He can easily outrun the couples other dog which is a Jack Russell Terrorist.

Or the no-legs version - know a young guy who had both legs removed by a train. Hell knows how his body stood the shock of that. At least he's alive and is now a fairly talented sax and clarinet player.
