No, I actually have never joined a pay site. Mostly because of the fear of the never ending battle to be able to cancel it on my credit card I guess. The prices of most sites are not what have deterred me, its mostly been the stigma of being scammed or perpetually billed forever.
My favorite site for years has been Mark's Bookmarks (Bookmark.com)
I've never been much into videos, still photos have always been my thing.
Beyond that, I've honestly never understood why would people pay for it when there is so much for free. I'm still trying to figure that one out.
As to the 'Why' before, I meant why did you join a particular site? The particular niche? the particular girl? something else??Comment

Yup, a few times, those with alt girls had me coming back everyday... the megapass sites I forgot about them. I got a trial for playboy for research purposes a bit ago as well.Comment

yep - a few a year. i currently have a membership to Videosz - it's great, for what it is. Now that Redlight District is licensing their DVD's and some other quality studios these DVD download sites are worth the money. It used to be 90% crap in those sites - now it's about 50/50 crap to quality wise.
i also joined Carlos the Gaucho's BigSister site - great concept, unfortunately the whores are ugly, if they had better looking girls I'd be a member for life.I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!Comment

I am fairly new to the adult webmaster business, and have been a surfer for a long time. I dont know that I would call myself a professional porn webmaster at this point though. I am still building my adult sites and sorting through all the sponsors and such and growing.
I've been given access to a few of the sites I promote along the way and have been impressed, though not to a point to join any as a paid subscriber as of yet.
As I said before my hesitance to join has been more fear of being screwed/scammed/perpetually billed than it was anything else. Those fears seem to be lessoned as I understand more of the industry.
I dont think the free stuff has been what's kept me from joining any particular site, if anything its made me more interested to think about joining.Comment

Never have, never will. Mind you I have seen a ton of it, encoding videos and stuff. Never was my cup of tea. I have always found it too contrived to be appealing in any way. That doe NOT mean I don't know my market and what appeals to them.Comment

I guess that again kinda drives my point above about the concern about being afraid of being screwed when it comes to the billing or 'unjoining'.
Does anyone have any insight as to why there seems to be this stigma in this industry surrounding the pay portion of adult sites?
In general, does this kind of problem still exist with a majority of the paysites out there?
For example, there are many sites I would love to join that advertise a $3.95 signup, but then when you read the fine print it says that you will be billed again in 3 days, but that you have to give 3 days notice in order to 'unjoin' or stop the billing. In other words you are going to be billed twice whether you like it or not.
It seems like there would be many more return customers to these sites if there wasn't such a questionable issue when it comes to billing.Comment

Your above question is a whole different can of worms.
I join sites for research and to make sure they are not fucking the people I am sending with screwy billing practices before I promote them. (few other reasons as well)
Screwing people is not in the majority though.
Your example is a trial membership turning into a full membership which is not unethical or wrong as long as it is fairly disclosed. I am pretty sure most understand what a trial is and why it works the way it does under most circumstances (few people do fuck you on those as well).Comment

That's basically why I am gearing up to join sites along the way as well. Like I said before, most of what I need/want personally seems to be available as free stuff out there, sorry sponsors but it is. But I would very much like to know that what I am promoting for others to join/experience is not going to turn into a bad rap for myself as a promoter much less an unpleasant experience for the user.
I agree about the trial memberships turning into full memberships, there is nothing unethical about that, except when the fine print is so damn small or not even on the same page as to mislead the user into thinking that it is a one time event which turns into a shitload of re-bills without the user being aware until it is way too late...
That is one of the major things I am looking for when I am searching out sites to promote beyond the content...what are the billing practices/arrangements by the sponsor and how transparent are they to the potential new member....
If I was able to pay $3.95 for even a 1 day access pass with no bullshit, I would be much more apt to come back soon for a 2nd fix or even a full time monthly membership and even more importantly I would be more likely to spread the word about how pleasant the experience with the sponsor is and how trustworthy they were with my damn credit card.Comment
