back when this picture was taken we were well aware of what saddam was doing to his own people and the fact he was building an arsenal of chemical weapons. We didn't care because he was killing millions of Iranians for us.

I am mainly trying to say that it is a lot easier to determine whether or not intervention was "needed" or "not needed" in hindsight. In hindsight we can rip each other to pieces and ask "why didn't this happen?" "Why didn't that happen?"
In six months if Iran pops up with a nuclear bomb there will be all sorts of "why didn't such and such happen?" If in six months we decide to go after Iran with the idea that they have a nuclear bomb and they don't have it there will be all sorts of "why did we do that?"
Hindsight is like war. If you win, you're a hero and you did this great thing. If you lose, you are a loser and will go down in flames.
Just say for example sake that a nuclear bomb was found in Iraq... today would be a totally different day. Would George W. Bush have been called one of the greatest President's? God dammit danza... Now i have mixed feelings on the war... both good and bad...
but you post here is kinda bunk...
Youre saying the war is ok since vietnam was much worse... especially in one day.
thats not justification. Thats weighing statistics.
All I have to say as far as casualties is this... Iraq is lacking... Im not saying vietnam wasnt either, but they were much more geared and we are a hell of a lot more geared than we were then.
There are many differences to weigh as to why the casualties are lower in this war.

i feel good because it got sadam out of reign... he broke many many treaties that warranted these actions far before now...
i feel bad because its a bunk ass oil and power war... meaning those lives lost were just thrown away...

Why is the war good? We got saddam how many years ago? We havent yet to bring democracy to iraq, nor do I feel any time soon...

You make it sound like a 50/50 shot either way, and that's not the case. We KNEW he didn't have a nuke and we knew he didn't have stockpiles of WMD's, but we USED the specter of that possibility to justify an invasion of a sovereign nation for what appear to be strictly personal feelings on the part of GWB.
In most cases our intelligence is strong one way or the other.Comment

In the reply I gave about countries invading the US, I said the tiny and I do mean very tiny occupation of parts of Alaska by Japan did not really count as an invasion of the US.
The terrorists that hijacked planes and crashed them also would not count as an invading force, it would count as an attack on US soil. Ironically this attack allowed our own government to adjust our freedoms that they are supposedly responsible to protect us from.Comment

In theory, yes Danza.
However... back in late 2002 when the bush admin started selling the idea of an Iraq war to the American people we were given 3 reasons:
1. Iraq was responsible for 9-11
2. Iraq had WMDs
3. Saddam was an imminent threat to the U.S.
Of course we later found out that none of the above was true, and most people have forgotten these little tid bits but yeah, 6 1/2 years is a long time to think back.

No, I wanted to point out that this is not a rationalization of any sort for going to war and killing thousands and thousands of people. Iraq broke the terms of SANCTIONS, not a treaty anyway, and most of their violations were trading their oil for food. We have violated the Geneva Convention, in fact we violate treaties and any and all agreements we want anytime we want. Nobody can punish us for it.
My point is don't look for excuses. The only excuse for killing people is if they're about to kill you.Comment
