    Suggest: A good UK/British Movie.

I'm a big fan of period pieces lately,

and I'm looking to find a few new titles.

It doesn't half to be a period film, but I do enjoy epics or detailed movies in any language.

For example I just saw "Gangster #1" the other day, don't know how I missed it before. But I'm looking for stuff like Barry Lyndon, Amelie, Perfume: Story of a murderer, anything with good cinematography and detail.

I'm also looking for any overlooked or not so popular UK movies that we don't get many chances to see in the states.

Basically I'm looking for anything that isn't very common in the US

    Suggestions?

          All good ones,

          that I have already seen.

But definitely on the right track.

I know there are a lot of overlooked UK movies, recently I've stumbled upon a few and got a taste for them.. just looking for more.

          Input.. Input.. More Input!

                Thanks for the suggestions,

might have to check that one out.

Sexy Beast is great.. that would be ideal if I hadn't seen it already.

I must admit, I've seen a lot and own a lot, that's why the movie usually has to be overlooked or underplayed in the US to be new to me.

But it's so worth it when you find a kick ass movie you haven't seen or never considered watching

                  Again,

really a fan of period pieces too.. and I think most of the good uk movies I've overlooked are non-gangster related movies.

I doubt there is anything with astonishing cinematography I haven't seen, but would welcome any surprises.

                      Sure was,

I'm a huge movie buff and I only saw it just a few months back.

Those are the kind of diamonds I'm looking for.

                          Yeah,

Barry Lyndon was definitely overlooked for me.

Only saw it for the first time a couple of years back.

Something about those period pieces, maybe it's just the detail.. but you can totally blank out for 2 hours and get sucked in.. that's what I love.

Same thing happened when watching Perfume for the first time not too long ago.

If you're into old but well crafted UK comedy (not talking python here - older than that and more subtle) you can't go far wrong with just about any Ealing Comedy.

                              Tom Jones
Tom Jones is a 1963 British comedy film. It is an adaptation of Henry Fielding's classic novel The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling (1749), starring Albert Finney as the titular hero. It was one of the most critically acclaimed and popular comedies of its time,[1] winning four Academy Awards. The film was directed by Tony Richardson and the screenplay was adapted by playwright John Osborne. The film is notable for its unusual comic style: the opening sequence is performed in the style of a silent movie, and characters sometimes break the fourth wall by looking directly into the camera and addressing the audience.

                              Truly, Madly, Deeply
Truly, Madly, Deeply is a 1990 film written and directed by Anthony Minghella and stars Juliet Stevenson and Alan Rickman.

Nina, an interpreter, is beside herself with grief at the recent death of her boyfriend, Jamie, a cellist. When it appears that she is no longer able to cope with life, Jamie reappears as a "ghost" and the couple are reconciled ? either in Nina's imagination or in an actual reunion: it is up to the viewer to decide. Nina is of course ecstatic, but Jamie's behaviour ? turning up the central heating to stifling levels, moving furniture around and inviting back "ghost friends" to watch videos ? gradually infuriates her, and their relationship deteriorates. Although happy and able to return to a somewhat normal state, Nina's relationship with Jamie is put under strain by his erratic behavior.

I don't like prison movies, but this one is a cut above the rest. I watched it twice in succession, missed a few things the first time around.

Heading home late one night after a party, Kate falls asleep while waiting for her train. She awakens to find herself trapped in the London underground, with all the doors locked for the evening. While being attacked by a co-worker who has followed her, a mysterious unseen creature drags him away and kills him. This begins a terrifying ordeal, as Kate and a young homeless couple are stalked through the dark tunnels by something dangerous with payback on its mind. Written by Mr_John_Barrymore

While inspecting the sewage system of London, two workers are attacked by a weird creature. Later, Kate decides to leave a party trying to meet the actor George Clooney who is in London. She waits for the last underground train, but after drinking many alcoholic beverages, she falls asleep accidentally on the platform bench, missing the last train and being trapped in the closed underground station. Later, a train going to the depot stops at the platform. She boards the train and she meets her acquaintance Guy, who tries to sexually assault her in the underground car. Guy is attacked by the creature, dragged off, and Kate leaves the train through the tunnel. This is the beginning of her claustrophobic, scary and gore night running through the Underground of London. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Corrected By Joe Harrison, England)
