the number of people i know who have gone to college and university for 3-4 years now and still have accomplished nothing, still don't know what to do, etc etc is ridiculous.

honestly, the majority of the more intelligent people I know never went to post secondary at all. and the rest are all sitting in college simply because they can live off mommy and daddy's college savings fund and their student loans.

not the case for everyone, but college & university is definitely not educating any type of genious on the grand scale. unless you want to be a doctor or nurse, scientist, or engineer or something that will genuinely require further education, you don't need university.

i think one of the worst things to ever happen in this world was making education a business.

It was a shock, but I guess this is reality.

Altough I've learned a FEW useful things about how things are going in this world, I still think that going to a college was a big waste of time, energy and money.

But that itself was a lesson for me, so here I am.

And one more thing: if your daddy is not somebody, forget about going to college...

bingo it's for rich kids whose daddy is going to find their way for them. the worst are these kids who take useless courses just so they can say they are in college.

            I totally agree.

Not to mention that those fucking stupid cocky kids, who become men and women, simply look down on people and think they are somehow closer to God just because they went to college...That's fucked up!!

Dangerous people these stupid people with college... (college, not education)

I spent 5+ years in university (inclusive of grad work) so that I could retire at 30 and spend all day on the internet trying my hand at different business models, including adult.

Is that a hint of jealously that I'm detecting from the OP?

In any event, college cannot be blamed for prevailing clusters of similar thinkers. Those types of persons would have always conformed to social norms, regardless of the level of education they pursued.

              Followers are followers. Simple.
How does going to university allow someone to retire at 30?
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..

I learned how to weigh pot properly on a digital scale.

I also learned how to market drugs and efficient mass distribution.

                        Ah, the insults began early.

I went to university so that due to proper application of acquired skills (and admittedly a few other natural talents), I now have enough money to do as I please, when I please. The problem with this thread is that the people who have a negative view of college tend to be the very same persons who could never make it in a university setting.

And yes, I "wandered" into the realm of adult. I'm a newbie at best and find most of the persons here quite interesting. Perhaps I'll make some extra money from it, but it really doesn't matter as my living has been made already. I do have a few concepts that may come in handy for the overall industry, but we'll see if there is a niche for me to show that.

When it comes time to being in an actual business setting and being professional, you could absolutely learn a thing or two. But I'd doubt that because you already have a chip on your shoulder about "college" people.

                        Read this peeps, carefully too...

As I said before, there are people who, regardless of educational level, will NEVER make anything of themselves in life. Just because you know a few who went to college does not reflect poorly on tertiary education as a whole. The fact of the matter is that I can show you even more unsuccessful "nobody's" who DIDN'T go to college.

The concept of speaking negatively about a University education finds its root in some of the most ignorant thought processes on this planet. Even the most successful persons who didn't go to college are aware of the fact that to get things done, you absolutely must have highly educated people in your corner. Look at persons like Bill Gates or even Oprah. Do you think that they surrounded themselves with college dropouts like they actually were? No. Of course not.

And hence my point is proven. Show university education the respect it deserves because even though you have some people who are naturally intelligent and have no need for university, the modern day world was designed by and depends upon the minds of those who focused on educating themselves. Let's see you go to a doctor who never went to university or drive on a highway that was designed by someone who didn't have a college level education.

I rest my case. Save the insults for someone who is actually worthy of them.

And no, I don't think that I'm better than anyone who didn't go to college, but when someone dares to insult my level of education to due their own ignorance, that's just pitiful.

How did university specifically allow you to do this...because I know many university graduates who are no where close to retiring and are still far from even paying back their massive student loans. The only real reason to go to university is to get that piece of paper. Sure you can learn some interesting stuff but no more than you could have on your own. Also the women aren't bad either.

Education never hurts. The problem is that most people go to school not to learn, but rather just to get their degree or certificate, so they can start working.

college is not for everyone... it depends on your career path and you're learning curve. I was always an average by the book student but in the real world thinking outside of the box and being creative, I kick ass. With that said look at the business i'm in, Internet/Computer biz. American society tells you you're nothing without a college degree until proven other wise.

now if i wanted to be a rocket scientist i probably would need college. but, i'm self taught went to college for 4yrs got a degree in my field and gained nothing but a nice fat bill. but my mom is happy that i went so thats all that matters

the best is when you get a group of college kids from the same class in a group and have a debate and their opinions are all the same (of the professor) and they do not realize it.

i just wanted to congratulate some of you fools you spent $xx,xxx+ to be taught to work a 9-5 and not think outside the box. you have made my life so much easier.
