i've heard that the shampoos these days clog the drains though because they are so thick and goopy

Not by itself, but when you add in other factors like hair and such then you may end up with a spluge induced clog.

A couple guys have confirmed this for me. Yes, it does. Especially when combined with a girlfriend's long hair.
