    Photoshop loads so sloooooooooooooooow question

Photoshop takes forever to load up for me these days - i've built up a large collection of preset brushes, styles, patterns, shapes - is Photoshop loading everything in the 'presets' directory and that's why it's loading so slow? if so, what's the solution, storing brushes etc in some other folder so nothing other than defaults gets loaded?
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

    Yes that's why.

Just delete them, presets hinder creativity.

You won't face this if you buy that Imac you are thinking about buying, PS loads in about 6 seconds here tops.

do you have lot of 3rd party plugins or fonts installed too?
or possibly bad/damaged fonts... the can fuck ps up pretty good as well.

PS styles and plugins hinder creativity - but brushes, shapes and patterns - they inspire creativity.

for example - let's say you want a cardboad texture or background - why would u take the time to find a piece of cardboard, scan it in when lots of people have already done it for you and make them available for free?

So ya never get the same thing twice

Just sayin, aside from fonts.. I've always had a default PS install..

I make each brush as needed, and shapes always fresh with the pen tool.

plug-ins not many, 4 or 5 - but fonts, yes a pretty big collection.

i still can't believe Photoshop still doesn't have a Brush preview feature - you have to load brushes to take a look at them. I have a little program that some guy did make to preview brushes but would be better if it was a plug-in for PS.

What version are you using Mutt?

CS2 was slow as fuck for me.. but CS3 is nice and fast.
I haven't bothered to purchase CS4 yet so can't comment on it.. nothing there that justifies me spending more money as of yet.

i'm not great with the pen tool - actually i am pretty good if i have something as reference to trace over.

i'm gonna empty the presets folders and put them somewhere else so PS doesn't load them.

fonts - nothing i can do about them - i should get a Font manager software.

                      Fonts are likely the offender.

CS2 and CS3 load alot faster eh? i'll have to upgrade - i'm missing out on new features like Smart Objects - sometimes I do PS tutorials and I can't complete them because they are now written for CS2 and up

thanks for the info - glad to see you're still around kelly - i wondered if you were still in the adult design biz.

you're not really missing anything other than an extremely shitty interface...

the big speed increase came for me with cs3 ( cs2 and mac didn't play so nice due to the intel transition )

yeah - 3ds Max is no small learning curve. I tried downloading a free model - imported it into Max and was hoping it would be easy to render since it came with materials - all i wanted to do was render it from different angles and then use it in Photoshop. Turned out all flat looking, without all the nice reflections i saw on the website i got it from. I gave up - too complicated.

Check out Blender, it's pretty fully featured.. I haven't used it in some time as I've been too busy to play around, but I did this with it a few years back, did a better version with a full rendered background with my logo and shit on it, but can't find the source file..

Also did the gun in my sig and on my site with it... great free program.

i have all the RAM WindowsXP can handle - 4GB - somebody suggested i delete Photoshop's database and let it rebuild it. i'm going to upgrade to CS3 soon and probably buy a Mac. i'm cheap, i keep stalling on that waiting to see how bad the economy and this industry are going to drop.
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

but how much are you actually telling photoshop to use?
wont be anywhere near 4.. even with /3g switch..

i moved to vista ultimate 64bit (its got a bad rap, but i've yet to have any problems) with 8 gigs... in cs3 and cs4 (32bit) i can give PS 3.3 Gigs of ram to use... versus the 1.7something gigs i could give it in XP....

in cs4 (at 64bit) i can give ps 7.2 gigs...
