This is true for any kind of business.
If I am planning to drive traffic to a new sponsor I do a background check. I better spend some extra minutes on this rather than regret promoting fancy looking [i mean good looking paysites/content] but rotten apples. I used to ask around my reliable friends as well before "bigger" investment/biz with anyone.
