    Mac Pro vs iMac?

i was strongly considering getting an iMac - then went to check out the prices and the Mac Pro isn't that much more expensive in the end. who here uses an iMac and why do you prefer it to a Mac Pro other than price?
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

Mac Pro you can upgrade to a ridiculous amount of ram. If you're working with video encoding, outputting, rendering, etc. I would advise you get a Mac Pro. If you're just doing some photo manipulation, web production, html, etc. then get an iMac.

slightly off topic and doesn't really answer your question Mutt

but you can configure a Mac Pro to just under $20k on the Apple website lol.

i'd kill for one of those.

I think we have at least 1 of each available Apple product at the moment.

I think the iMac is the best product they put out. There's no way they are close to the cost of a Mac Pro.

The 24'' iMac is like $1799. I've got a relatively low end Mac Pro and it cost just about $3k. The Mac Pro is very upgradable. The iMac you can add more RAM to and that's about it.

They're different machines, but the iMac will be capable of taking most of what you can throw at it.

Adam, someone make's a sling you can wrap around them and carry over your shoulder. I'll find the name and send it to you. I take mine home with me from time to time.

          Spend you some brain.

I think you can buy the same parts Apple uses for their $3k desktop for just under $7.

I turned an HP quad core into a Hackintosh and it keeps up with the Mac Pro no problem. I can even get software updates right on the box directly from Apple.

I don't know that I would personally buy one of those, but I own the Mac Pro and I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone but the truly hardcore video/photo/music user.

7 bucks seems like a good deal

Good catch. I meant $700, but that should have been obvious.

I just use the macbook air and plug it into a 23" monitor at work with a kb & mouse and take it with me everywhere. No need to use any syncing or MobileMe just carry my laptop everywhere.

Best solution if you dont need anything high end graphics work.

                      Take Luck!
