Dear Apple: Standardize on, or KILL brushed metal. The multi-widget-set-from-hell look is so Windows 9x.. actually, Windows 3.1.

Standardise the interface I completely agree! So sloppy.Originally posted by toonpornblogDear Apple: Standardize on, or KILL brushed metal. The multi-widget-set-from-hell look is so Windows 9x.. actually, Windows 3.1.
But still, brushed metal is better than the frikkin horrible eye-straining lines-from-hell
and that horrible anti-aliasing. It's better than what it was, but it's still trippy

Nope, the mixed metaphors are still there....Originally posted by packThe unified look will become the standard. Check out iTunes and mail.app or the ichat screenshots from leopard.
the system level apps, control panel, time machine, spaces etc have the grey feel, while applications have a mix of brushed metal and the system level grey - look at mail.app.... it still has the same gui as control panel et al.
That is not the mac GUI.
Don't get me wrong, I love it, but christ - the mac OS was built on consistancy and ease of use. The origal Apple Human Interface Guidelines have (quite literally) been rewritten.

..and fer chrissakes, the Finder, the absolute being of the Mac is still a carbon port. When is it *ever* going to be a native cocoa app!

If you have not seen the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Fran August 7
http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.ne...ent/index.html
It is a must see for Mac users as well as those who are thinking of switching.
Even if you don't think you'd want a Mac, watch it, you would have to love what you see.
They also touch on Vista for you Win users

I bought the MacBook back in May and i'm kind of torn between upgrading 10.4.7 to Leopard seeing as how i'm still learning this OS plus I really don't see too many improvements that would warrant a price tag of 150 bucks.
Not sure what to do because I really don't want to pirate a copy the OS. If you haven't made the switch to OS X then you should. The only reason I need to boot into Windows (thanks to Boot Camp) is to play Rise of Nations.Comment

LOL :D, go with a Mini Core Solo and upgrade to the Core 2 Duo when they're out.
I switched less than a month ago and already sold off my PC. No need for it or Windows anymore; OS X rocks. Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. -VoltaireComment

I'm fairly certain it's a carbon app from the ground up. Carbon is c++ compiled to binary; cocoa is a runtime compile. Guess which is faster?Originally posted by borked..and fer chrissakes, the Finder, the absolute being of the Mac is still a carbon port. When is it *ever* going to be a native cocoa app!Comment

Why would you do something like that?Originally posted by toonpornblog...I still can't believe I sold off my wonderful iMac, and got a Dell.. I still feel so lost, nearly two months later.

I also agree that apple should get rid of the various interface styles. As a developer it's frustrating.
Those screenshots don't do it any justice. If you watch the entire keynote address it gives you a real good idea what its functionality is.

Looks to me like the Finder has been replaced (or a large part of its functions) with Spotlight a much more powerful Spotlight.
I highly recommend watching the video..
