Asking for people's opinions is one way to shop for a host.
Another way is to check out their network and compare it to other hosts you're considering.

Also whenever I've shopped for a host I've checked out the tech support.
Call their 1-800 number a 3AM on Saturday and see if anybody answers or if anyone is there to help you.
Odds are good that when you have problems it won't be 9-5 Monday thru Friday.

I use www. phatservers.com for a dedicated server.
They have been great I had over 130 domains to move. Their techs worked moving everything for me, setting up my scripts, the whole nine yards around the clock until it was all done.
24 hour tech support someone is always around. I can email them at 2 am and five mins later they email back. Plus if I need anything I just bitch and moan to Sly.
Just a 41 year old original cam model from way back, fetish princess, pantyhose and Gothic craft maker. Graphics designer when need be. Just an all around "Web Mistress".

I've heard nothing but praise for their dedicated. Splum, who's been MIA for a few days, has had a host with them for over 4 years. Other than a few minor network problems, he's been happy with them.

It depends on who you ask.
Like any hosting company, there are some people who have had a good experience, and some that have had a bad experience.
Give them a try - don't sign a commitment - be prepared to jump ship at a month's notice. Not only is it good for backups, but it's also good to know that if you ever have a problem, there is NO problem.Comment
