Just grab some of the testing footage from the Lunar landers. They tested them in the desert areas that were made mostly of rock. They had trouble, because the rockets wold dig a hole as big or bigger than the lander.

So, why doesn't someone take one of the thousands of telescopes on earth and simply find the landing area and take a picture of it? Make a game of it.. They left a LOT of stuff there, should be in about the same condition as when it was left.
