I get an electric shock every darn time I stand up

I got a new office chair and there is something going on between it and my ass that every time I stand up and touch anything that might possibly conduct electricity I get a shock. I have tried making sure I 'earth' myself when I stand up but a surprising number of things can give that shock.

I guess I am going to have to figure out some sort of cover for the chair because this is just dumb and I never had the problem with any of my previous chairs. It is comfy though..until I stand up.

I hate this plus everytime you get up from your chair its even scary to touch something

Removing the wheels from the chair might help....

the chair builds up a current then when you grab something thats earthed itll give you a shock

there are mats you can buy to prevent that

prolly synthetic carpet and nylon wheels or so, make sure yo be careful laptops etc dont like shocks like that

Wooden fllor..plastic mat to protect wooden floor under the program. The chair is fabric where as most of mine in the past have been fake leather. So, thinking it is that fabric that is causing the build up.

I'm leaning back in my chair now, with my feet on the desk.

I'm afraid I'll have to get a new chair soon.... again

That was going to be my suggestion as well. You also want to get one of those humidity sensors that tells you the humidity in the room so you don't end up with it at 70%.

If you're wearing a sweater, do the fibers stand up when you come close to a plastic part of the chair? If so, it might be that plastic piece causing the problem. If this is the case, I think there's some sprays that lessen this effect. I'm not exactly sure. Not all plastic items share this quality.

When the humidity is low, static charge will build up no matter how hard you try to avoid it. The only thing I have found is to touch metal object with something else before touching my hand. Like use the car key to touch the car before grabbing the door handle. If something like that isn't available, I slap the object. That seems to mask the shock. Screaming seems to help too.
If the problem is in your house, raising the humidity helps a lot. A humidifier is ideal. Or one of the little decorative waterfalls. Anything to raise the humidity. You probably don't have the problem as much in the summertime. If you do, you need to find out what you are wearing that is generating the static charge. Shoes, artificial fabrics, etc. I know that sliding out of my leather car seat gets my attention if I am not holding onto something metal. I just had to learn to not let go of the door handle until I was clear of the seat.
                                            Hope this helps.
