just some domains I got stashed away in storage, nothing serious for me this time, but it is still a piss off and stuff like that can cause big problems for those of us that are spread thin all over the place and don't feel like spending time fixing unnecessary work

I'm not sure how a professional webmaster could work on shared hosting. Blame yourself really.
a purpose for everything, I can't afford nor need to have a dozen dedicateds all over the world, but having a couple dedicateds and some shared hosting here and there works out for what I am doing

I don't see any backfire, I have shared accounts on a number of different hosts, I think it is a good way to go rather than just adding ip's to the dedicateds, don't see anything wrong with that, the domains I have on the shareds don't get much traffic anyways, but many of them have pr and are good for what I have them there for... to get more dedicateds all over the place doesn't make sense and would be a waste of money for that purpose, and they also tend to cost more then $59 other than very few providers worth talking about....
I guess you could make a halfass argument for just sticking them on different ips on a single dedicated, but I still think this a better way to be truly spread out

He's said he's got dedicated.. I don't see the problem.. If you've been in the biz more than a couple of years you'll likely have at least some legacy accounts that are shared... Some are for different business accounts.. Sometimes you want to test something in a different environment... Sometimes you couldn't be assed moving 50 doms on a $10 account... Either you guys are really organised or you're just not doing enough.
