I just don't get how it can blow up while off. Are they sure there wasn't any foul play involved? Maybe some neighborhood kids fucking around with a couple cherry bombs?
It kind of reminds me of a story. Had a very wealthy Uncle-in-law who had bought a new jaguar maybe 20 years ago. The first week he had it the car completely broke down on the road. Smoke and everything, engine shot to shit. Next morning at 9am a guy shows up at his door with a brand new Jaguar and keys. Says he's sorry for any inconveniences but here is his new Jaguar with some upgrades along with some expensive wine. Here is the conversation that ensued.
Uncle: What ended up being the problem?
Guy: Problem sir?
Uncle: Yes, on the Jaguar that broke down.
Guy: Sorry sir, there must be a misunderstanding. Jaguards don't break down.
The guy then left. Creepy and cool. That's how luxury car customers were treated back in the day. I guarantee you that if this was 25 years ago, you'd have gotten a call from Mercedes within hours apologizing and fixing the problem.
