Most people nowadays understand the dangers of salmonella poisoning. Also, it is now healthy to eat the yolk nowadays anyway. The yolk is rich in vitamins that the egg white doesn't even have, like the fatty acid DHA. They now know that higher cholesterol levels are more related to a diet high in saturated and trans fats than to dietary cholesterol. That doesn't mean it is now safe to eat foods high in cholesterol all day either. Two whole eggs a day is fine, though. Just as long as you're eating a healthy and balanced diet the rest of the day.

2. the chances of catching anything from a raw egg is so damn slim it is funny.
Raw eggs appear in lots of recipes all of the time and remain raw.
