The release came shortly after the broadcast of a video in which the pair read statements saying they had embraced Islam with the Prophet Mohammed as their leader.

Im not sure I would have done - Im a stubborn old bastard, and the more I am pushed the more I dig my heals in. I honestly think I would have taken the bullet. The only thing that would make me do it is if it meant the other guy wouldnt have got out as well.

You're confusing stupid with stubborn. I'm stubborn, too, and I don't cave easily but why the fuck would I give up my life instead of just mouthing a few words? To say you'd take a bullet first is idiotic on a grand scale. You're going to give up the rest of your life and everything you have for the nothingness of death because you're too "stubborn" to say a few words you don't really mean? Your death would mean nothing; you wouldn't break their organization or their spirit, you wouldn't turn the tide of the conflict, you wouldn't stop them from capturing and beheading more journalists, you wouldn't bring Islamic terrorists networks to their knees.
