damn what a day
my computer that I bought 6 months ago died today.
there maybe still somethings I can do to resurect it but not sure
at least I may get back the data I didn't have time to back up last night.
the rest of the computer well we will have to see what I can salvage.
Looks like I will be going shopping tomorrow for a new computer.

so I rebooted and I get one screen of black then nothing.
swapped out the video card still nothing.
I am going to try doing a repair install of xp and see if that helps.
could be either hardware or software.
i was going with the video card as the problem but it works fine on this computer, same with the new sound card and ethernet card
so I am going software, windows xp as the problew. Keeping my fingers crossed.
don't wanna have to spend $90 on a test or buy a new comp if I can help it.Comment

I doubt this problem warrants buying a whole new computer. I'm not an expert, but I'd guess you are looking at a problem with your hard drive, RAM or motherboard.
I once did a RAM upgrade on my oldest computer and got the black screen after pressing power. It was a real shot in the dark, but upgrading the BIOS was the fix in my case. Interestingly enough, the last and final BIOS that Sony released didn't fix it. I had to go to the motherboard's website and get theirs.
So maybe one of your RAM cards went bad. You could try switching the memory around. If you have two cards, take one out, then try the other, then try one in each different bay, etc... Try putting one of the cards as the only card in another computer and see if it works there too.Comment
