ORANGE ? A gang member who flashed hand signs while posing for a picture with Santa Claus pleaded guilty today to violating a gang injunction and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.
Uriel Oliva, 18, of Anaheim, was also ordered deported to Mexico, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Oliva pleaded guilty this morning to two misdemeanors for associating with other gang members and flashing gang signs inside an area protected by a gang injunction, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Police arrested Oliva last month after discovering a keychain photo that showed him flashing gang signs while posing with Santa at the Village Mall in Orange. The mall is a designated safety zone under the gang injunction.
Four other documented gang members also posed for the photo with Santa, according to the District Attorney's Office. Spokeswoman Susan Kang Schroeder said she could not comment on the others because they're juveniles.
Orange Police Sgt. Dan Adams has said police will not release the Santa picture until they have identified everyone in it.
The gang injunction in Orange prohibits known gang members from associating with each other, using gang signs or wearing gang clothes inside the 1.4 square mile "safety zone."
The county Public Defender's Office represented Oliva, but did not return a phone call seeking comment this afternoon.
