I've had to do that on a few occasions. The best thing to do is to take a hammer and hit them in the head a few times to knock them unconsious, once you get that far, you're golden, the rest is a breeze. The only thing that I hate is waiting for them to wake back up.
I've done it 6 times already, every one was a success planting the chip. The only thing is that I'm still waiting for 5 of those cats to wake back up, they must be really tired or something.Comment

It's the rules man... all animals imported into Hawaii are required to have a microchip. Why? Hawaii is the only place on the planet that is Rabies Free. And they intend to keep it that way. For what its worth...take my advice and take your cat(s) to a vet...I did it when I went to AZ a few years ago...
It's HELL-A easy and takes like 30-seconds for the vet to inject the chip behind the base of their head...in the same place where you'd pick a kitten up from...
Minor paperwork but WTF...and depending on what vet you see or go to...it's only a few bucks...shit..what am I say..you can afford it! LOL
Cool thing is if it ever gets lost...umm....the cat that is and not the chip...and get's picked up...they'll know where to send it back too...
Then again, if the facility the cat is taken too doesn't check for 'chips'...then you're RFUTA....
