I run two mainstream fact sites - one is wikipedia.com and the other is dmoz.org

I'm working on one now ( www.infocity.dk )
It will mostly be based on statistics and public research. But there will be bio and chemistry information as well, together with a database of dates/events. Hard to get good content, and most of it haven't been digitized yet. It have been more than 4 months in the making so far, because the content is so dry and terrible to enter in to databases

if you are asking me, then I'm planning on using a hand coded one, Very basic

I was looking at Joomla and Typo3, but I decided not to go with it, because if the security issues, and hard to move around.

I'm still in the process of just entering it in to a database structure and renaming/sorting the images
