Q: Who has been the most critical of the Gov't? Well maybe not the most critical, but the most critical with the ability to speak out to the masses about it?

A: Hollywood

What does the Gov't do? Smacks them in the face telling them that they now have to pay taxes on their free swag bags.

This year's Emmy swag bags estimated at being worth $2 million. Taxes on that = about $800,000

And gift tax applies to the person giving the gifts, not the person getting them... They're being tax on it being considered as income.

Oh, I think they should totally pay. But this has been going on for years and years and years... Recently Hollywood has been very outspoken about Politics, it had to have played some role in this new found taxing. I think it's pretty funny myself.

Yes, it says a lot about a society that needs be told "Professional driver on a closed course, do not attempt on your own" to watch a car commercial, or "Do not try this at home" for other stunts... LOL kind of scary if you think about it, we know we are so stupid that we have to tells ourselves not to be stupid. Yet, it doesn't always work.

What I don't get is how some how the tax on the value of gifts you receive has anything to do with who is in office now. That's been around for quite some time, long before Bush. Just no one really pays attention to it except when you're talking about the lottery.

If someone gives you a car, legally you are responsible for paying taxes on the value of that car. They just finally called the actors/actresses out on it.

Oh, and please don't read into this that I'm in anyway defending or like Bush. I'm just saying he nor the people in office created that "rule".
