Not defending anybody but a lot of labels are thrown around here like kidnapping vs. taking prisoners of war - what is the difference in wartime?
A central grievance of these organizations is the need to exchange prisoners of war to attain peace. The Palestinians and pro Jihad Islamists will keep taking political prisonors like this until some of the 9000 + prisoners of war kept by Isreal are exchanged or even addressed publically.
They want to make an equitable exchange since the value of human life should be considered equal regardless of race or religion. Again I don't defend them or either side for that matter. But from a humanitarian standpoint both sides are taking prisoners and one of the sides is hiding it and not allowing mass media to broadcast the facts.

When our side does it = prisoners of war. Or, "illegal combatants", or whatever we need to call them now so we can get around laws so we can tourture them.
When anyone who is not on our side does it = barbarians taking hostages.Comment

I don't want anybody killed, especially for their "views". I said I wouldn't feel bad, because I wouldn't. And would rather it were those two than these two other employees.
Also, it's not the views of these people that upset me. It's the horrific lies they insist on spitting out on TV every day. Their opinions are one thing, blatantly lying is another. Ann Coulter's books are complete frauds; most of the sources of her latest book have been proven false, and she plagiarizes. She is hurting my country by intentionally making people stupid. It has nothing to do with her being right wing. I wouldn't want to see Pat Buchanan or David Brooks in this situation.Comment

Coulter and O'Reilly aren't journalists though. This guy is. He used to work for NBC before coming to Fox. He's a guy out there doing a job for a living. He isn't spitting propoganda, he's being told to go to a place and cover the story.Originally posted by Mr. SoulI don't want anybody killed, especially for their "views". I too think Coulter and such are bad people. I think they are hate mongerers. But I'm not going to group them in with actual journalists who are doing a job to pay their bills. I'm also not going to say someone else deserves to die more because they have a different opinion than me.Comment

I doubt anyone on the ground gives a shit about his "living" - they have other more relevant considerations right now.Originally posted by pocketkangarooHe's a guy out there doing a job for a living. He isn't spitting propoganda, he's being told to go to a place and cover the story.
It's also unlikely they give a shit about whether he personally is "spitting propaganda" - he is employed by a deviant media corp - what else matters?
Sure.. hope they both come to no harm, but they chose the wrong side of a war zone to play games considering their citizenship and the company they represent. Who knows, but suspect they will just be dumped and told to fuck off shortly.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

I guess that is where we differ. I don't believe that citizenship and personal beliefs should be grounds for kidnapping and murder. I guess you would belive it is relevant to kill every Lebanon citizen with a MySpace account as they'd be supporting the same company.Originally posted by WebbyI doubt anyone on the ground gives a shit about his "living" - they have other more relevant considerations right now.

Don't assume the murder element nor the "kidnapping" - at least yet. Over the past two years, a number of foreigners have been abducted in Gaza and all have been freed unharmed.
Abducting a few members of the news crew of a propaganda news service from a war zone - especially if they represent an opposing govt, - is their privilege and choice. It's their country.Last edited by Webby; 08-14-2006, 03:57 PM.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

The journalistic ideal is dead, dead, dead... Did you see Mike Wallace and the president of Iran last night. If you didn't, I'll summarize it:Originally posted by WebbyNeither did the victims of the war. What's your point?
Reporters never were an elite or "excused" in a war zone.
Mike Wallace "Maybe it's the meds, maybe I'm senile, or maybe I've witnessed so much coruption in my career as a journalist that I can't tell up from down, right from wrong, truth from fiction. Yet, even as I know these things in the depth of my spirit, I can't be anything but a condescending, dismally unclever ass."

Do agree with you to a point.Originally posted by pocketkangarooMy point is that it's hypocritical to be against one and not the other. If you are against illegal detentions of people at Guantanamo, shouldn't you be just as against illegal detentions in Lebanon?
However Guatanamo is not a war zone and never has been - Gaza is.
At this time people on the ground have FAR more to consider than a couple of members of a news crew who are well-known to be conservative with the truth - it's not in the interests of Lebanon to have them there, and, if their luck is in, they will be kicked out fairly soon.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment
