Where I live there was a case a few years ago that involved the disappearance and murder of two teenage girls. It turned out that they were both killed by a guy that was the father of a friend of theirs. The girls were around 13 years old. One of them was having sex with the guy that eventually killed them. It turns out that the mother had an idea that her daughter was having a sexual relationship with this guy, who at the time was in his 40's, the girl said she was raped by the guy, but still went over there. Now at this point the girl is 12 years old and obviously has some kind of issues and needs help, but the mother should be locked up for A. letter her daughter continue to do this type of stuff and B. not doing something about it when her daughter claimed to be raped.
I've always said that there should be a test you have to pass to be allowed to be a parent. you have to pass a test to be trusted to drive a car, why not to be trusted to care for a child. It's a fucked up world we live in.Comment

the question of whether or not she "agreed" is so convoluted...with a mother like that, you know she had not been brought up in a way that would give her a sense of healthy boundaries where sex, or probably anything else for that matter, is concerned.
what is certain is that it's extremely unlikely that this is the first very fucked up situation her mother has put her in, and her ideas of what is "normal" are probably extremely skewed. therefore, using the fact that she didn't run to the authorities as proof that she was "ok" with it is poor logic...she wasn't in a position to decide whether it was something she should agree to - either mentally or with respect to her age.
if you ask a five year old, "hey, do you wanna quit school and go disneyland every day? how about staying up as late as you want? eating ice cream for every meal? sound good?" they would probably "agree." hell, if you ask a *fifteen* year old those questions, they would probably "agree." however, the law (and common sense) state that they are not yet old enough to make those decisions for themselves. parents are put in charge of making decisions relating to their children's welfare.
sometimes, as in this case, parents do a fucked up job of that. then they get to go to jail. but just because the parents fucked up, doesn't mean it's the kids' responsibility. fifteen is not old enough to drive or to work for longer than four hours straight. it's certainly not old enough to make an informed decision about whether to fuck mommy's boyfriend if she asks you to, particularly when your childhood has almost certainly been a festival of chaos that would provide you no perspective in realizing the request is out of line.
i think viewing her as an equal participant in the "agreements" made between the three of them is silly. yes, she signed her name to a contract. big deal. a four-year-old can sign their name. it doesn't mean they realize what it entails.Comment
