    Is this legit? Alertpay.com

I put up a cellphone for sale on a message board (craigslist) and this person wants to buy my phone but can't pick it up locally but says he/she can make payment through www.alertpay.com I've never heard of it before and wondered if anyone here has, or has ever used it. I just wanna know if its legit or not cuz this offer sounds too good to be true. I was only asking $40 for the cell but this person says that as soon as i recieve confirmation of the payment they'll send a fedex pre-paid shipping slip which they registered with fedex courier service and note that upon the slip pasted there is no shipping cost for me, they would like to offer $80.00 for the item.so that we can close the post......is this a scam??

Alertpay itself is legit. I cashed some cash from their checks. As for your transaction, i dont know about that.

well if alertpay is legit, and i get a payment confirmation from them, then what harm could shipping the item in the pre-paid envelope do to me?

I admit, it sounds too good to be true, but i don't see the angle. Am i gonna get reverse billed by fedex? if so, it can't be more than $14 or so to ship a freakin phone...?

If i get a 80 payment confirm. from alertpay, how do i collect the funds? is it like paypal, will i have to give them my checking acct. info?

I suppose they could do a chargeback with alertpay aswell and fuck you of your money if you don't take it out.
There's serveral options you can take it out, i believe ACH would be fastest for you.

If they offer to pay more, it's always a scam, and when they want to pay for shipping, it's doubly-so a scam.

I sent my "confirmation email" to alertpays spoof@alertypay dot com fraud dept. and they said it was a bogus email, a scam.

Thanks for all the input from everyone, it was in fact, a scam.

Needless to say i never shipped the item while this was all in doubt.
