This battle plan is fucked up. They are bypassing securing major cities first and going straight to Baghdad. What the fuck?

fucking back-seat generals. Hopefully command is watching gfy for advice.
General Franks' awards include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal; Distinguished Service Medal (two awards); Legion of Merit (four awards); Bronze Star Medal with "V" (three awards); Purple Heart (three awards); Air Medal with "V"; Army Commendation Medal with "V"; and a number of U.S. and foreign service awards.Comment

Wrong. The plan is sound. At this point in time they do not have any interest in getting bogged down in fighting in cities of no import. Their goal is to cut off the head of the snake (Baghdad).Originally posted by KRL

What resistance that is being put up by Iraqi forces is light resistance and was to be expected. If sand storms do not slow the progress of the main advancing forces, we will have control of the country in a few more days. Do not confuse control with secure. The country of Iraq may not be secure for years to come, if ever.
The strategy being used is reminiscent of General MacArthur's strategy during the Pacific campaign in the Second World War. By pass Japanese strongholds and let them wither on the vine and take them out later. By the way General MacArthur lost fewer troops than any General during the Second World War.When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!

i also agree its a good plan. The quicker they get to baghdad the better. Most of these 'pockets of resistance' are just like 20 guys with some ak47s and a grenade launcher.Ever notice that pretty much everything added to the Constitution after the original was a mistake.Comment

Everybody here knows you are pro-war, but can you for once look at the facts and come up with your own opinion about anything? They have been saying that leaving enemies behind is something to worry about. There are many troops that hadn't even started towards Baghdad from Kuwait as of last night. Their path to Baghdad will see resistance instead of a clean trip. This will not be good if we get into a real fight in Baghdad. They also pointed out that the trucks to refuel our vehicles and bring supplies to the front of the war will be slowed due to this. It's also been pointed out that some of our vehicles could run completely out of fuel if there were any resistance slowing the convoy from getting to Baghdad in a hurry. I've seen it several times already.Originally posted by theking

The more I read your posts the more I think you don't even read the articles or watch TV. This may very well be no problem but it has the potential to be a huge fuck up.

Assuming that the "they" you are referring to is the media and their "experts", I am not interested in what they have to say in regard to the strategy being used. In addition I have been a student of war and I completely understand the strategy of this campaign. There is nothing really new about the strategy (pretty much classic) and I am also aware that there are risks involved in any military plan/action. This campaign is going as planned and is slightly ahead of schedule and there is not any reason for alarm at this point in time. So far we have been being reasonable with the amount of force we have applied. If any serious problems develop, our forces can increase the use of force and Iraqi forces do not have the ability to do this, period. All is going well.Originally posted by stocktrader23

................Dusk was falling. There were Bradleys everywhere, and they had discovered a group of Iraqis coming toward them with small arms. They engaged. There wasn?t any return fire against the massive fire from the tanks. One American soldier was yelling, ?Kill the motherf?kers!? This is not a stroll into Baghdad. All along this road they?ve been encountering similar attacks by militia loyal to Saddam who are taking it upon themselves to fight. Bands of Iraqis are resisting, and there are casualties. My car is shrapnel and I?m basically embedded now. I don?t have much chance of going independent again and, to be honest, I don?t know if I want to..........

Many people are saying the resistance is much more than they expected. Just showing links so you don't think I'm sitting here writing this stuff up as we speak.

Resistance has been light. There have not been any major battles. The proof of this is the lack of serious numbers of coalition casualties. Just as in the 1st Gulf War up to this point in time accidental deaths exceed those of KIA's. There were more people killed by accidents during the build up in Desert Shield then were killed in Desert Storm. The Iraqi's are like bees stinging the tail of the beast and the beast is driving on to Baghdad slightyly ahead of schedule. At this point in time all is well. When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!
