If you have a very special program, word of mouth (word of sig) is always the best way.

I've contacted people after their skins to find the effectiveness of it. Some do it for different reasons:
1. To seem bigger than they are ... hey, if you can drop $25k on skinning, then don't you seem to be a big program?
2. Pure branding and it has worked and failed for some
3. New program launches --which to me, doesn't always seem to be the most effective. But that's just my opinion.

The question then becomes does dropping $20k on a skin at least help you break even?

25k and have to think long term...if a program gets new affiliates who make him only $200 more each day(and that should be easy), thats $6k per month and the skin is paid off in 4 months...

Fleshlight did the skin to kick off the redone affiliate program. To make sure everyone was aware it was redone, and make it clear the changes that were done. Plain and simple. People wanted them to make right on the problems they had, and they are doing their best to make it very very clear that they are the best upsell product out there.

The branding that is done is worth the price. When meeting new webmasters in person, a lot of them say "Oh ya... You guys skinned GFY a while back, right?". That alone helps to break the ice.

Figure out what it costs to skin GFY, then figure what a layered popup ad costs (it's around 10K), then figure what a monthly top banner spot ad campaign costs, then figure what the bottom banners go for...

You can quickly come up with a monthly number of what GFY brings in.
