I just called the IRS, specifically the EIN application line, and asked three different reps a pretty basic question about requirements for an EIN... each one said they didn't know and their job was to just take the application and type it into the computer, and kept forwarding me to someone else until finally I got an east indian sounding guy who's answer was filled with a lot of "I think" and "probably"
