If its 6months old - call dell, tell em you are scared of the silly box. 1st year - i think by default they come to you. Not sure tho on the home Inspirion class.

Its prob. a driver - easy fix from http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx

or even easier - http://tinyurl.com/37yj4d <-- thats the link to the drivers from Dell for your model - select CD/DVD

If that dont fix it, its just a faulty CD/DVD drive (or a poorly seated drive) - dell will fix/replace it for you.
