Letting other people use them might not be the best idea because of duplicate content penalization, however you can let people use a shorter written up summary of the story for a link back to your original story.

Better to get link backs to the story pages than the main page IMO. Still a link is a link is a link

Put up a 301 redirect on the old pages and direct to the new place.
