yes all dogs can be harmless. yes its the owners fault when a dog gets loose. the only problem with pit bulls is that they are known for just "snapping", and when they do its not pretty. they are number 1 on the attack list.

maybe that's true, but my Lab has been around a few pitbulls, and the only time he's ever been snapped at or attacked(twice) is by a mini Dacshund and by a Golden Retriever. One common denominator in both incidents was that the owners were actually kind of dicks, and not apologetic at all, almost blaming my sweet dog for inciting the attack. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
I've learned to watch the person with the dog -- If they seem like someone you'd want to avoid, then the dog should probably be avoided also. I've found that I'm right most of the time when I follow this principle.
