I would never sell a $60k/month site for $1M.

But working for more 1,5 year you would make $1M and you still have a good income after that. (And if you're young, no work for years sucks).Originally posted by sasush:
with 1$ million dollars you dont have to work and its enought money to live for 100 years.
I love my job. It is my challenge. If my projects works well, it's a victory and a fantastic feeling. I would think for a long long time about selling my business. It's part of my life. Did I say I love this job?

I'm with lens on valuation - I'd go as far as 6 months profit. I'm also with a few of these other guys that say that the management team adds character/personality that in many cases can't be replicated....and they also add expierence (2 years is a long time) that CAN NOT easily be passed on.
and just so I agree with (and add little of my own original thought to this thread) everybody on this board... I'm with the last few people that posted... WHY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH WOULD YOU CONSIDER SELLING? Assuming you got the net present value of the next 6 month's profit (plus a premium for brand name recognition & a second premium for work expierence & a final premium for selling your management/staff to the future owner)...Could you invest that money in another project that would bring you a better return over the next 10 years...than if you were to continue to own your sites.
I love mine...their current returns and future potential is too great to consider selling for what price somebody would give me...and they provide me too much happiness.
Maybe you just need a vacation! =)

I've heard 3 months from many people... I think it was either Shap or TheDoc that was telling me how they had sold some really large sites and I think the numbers were over the million $ mark... Maybe ask those guys.
Personally I'd never buy another site, but if I was I'd probably want to know how much of the site depends on your own personal unique skills, and also where your traffic is coming from...
Like someone else said though -- you could sell a site -- and start over and still kick ass... in fact I could sell a site, but all the traffic would follow me *grin*
I've thought of selling a site before -- but all my sites seem to involve custom cgi or java code that only I know how to operate... so if I sold the site -- I would also be selling some kind of software training along with it -- which seems like a pain in the ass. I think selling a large TGP site would be a lot easier because you are basically working off of bookmarker loyalty -- which is easy to keep -- no offense, but a TGP is pretty much a no brainer once you have the bookmarker traffic output -- so selling a no brainer site is a lot easier.

Lensman I read your 3-6 months profits what a porn biz is worth.
Man I would never sell my company for that.
I assume that is for TGP sites or something like that.
I mean would you sell Amateur pages for 3-6 months profits? I think not.
either would I :-p

Set up a corporation. Don't claim anything as personal income unless you have to. Business taxes are only 18%, and those are ONLY on what the business makes as PROFIT. The business spends its money BEFORE it pays taxes. People pay taxes on their income up to 50%, and then spend what remains.Originally posted by quiet:
something called taxes. depending where you live (I'm in Canada) the tax is 46.9% once you get over 100K

Ed, you have a profitable business and are very succesful, Lots of webmasters would love to see those numbers. Like you said it would have to be a great offer for youn to sell. You have lot that comes with the site that not all is being accounted for believe me I know.Comment

TheRealEd,
I have seen your posts over time. You are very generous with the information you provide which is a rarity. I don't know about the others, but I would definitely be interested in learning how you started, the various promos you did, milestones, amount of capital started with, etc. It takes a lot of effort to get as large as you have.
I hope that I am not asking too much!

Only problem with selling an adult web business is the fact that no one knows what may happen with the gov't in regards to legistating or litigating.
Terry if you are seriously looking to sell, let me know, I've got someone who is seriously considering buying decent, well run businesses, which I know yours is.Comment

KimmyKim, like most in this business I would sell if the price was right. I think everything has a price....

smart money wouldn't pay more than 6 months for an up and running paysite. They'll pay nothing for a tgp or "other" type of site.Originally posted by OnTime:

Great thread here, lots of good info.
It's damn annoying what the cheaters get away with these days, stealing content, spamming, etc.. I would contribute to a centralized fund to hire mercenaries and "neutralize" cheaters the proper way. ;>

Hmm... In most cases I'd agree -- unless you were buying a TGP that was rooted deep in search engines. Then again a TGP is a lot of work -- and works sucks -- so I guess I'll agree w/ 12Clicks ;)Originally posted by 12clicks:

One again 12click talks out of his ass. Traffic is worth money, not just because it's a paysite. It's easy to have a few customers lined up for a paysite showing revenue that all leave the second a site is bought. Much harder to fake traffic flow. (can be done though)Originally posted by 12clicks:

The market value on TGPs and similar free sites is the bookmarks. Currently sites go for about $1/bookmark. And some BIG ones sold in this price range recently. Anything bought less than that is a STEAL, and smart money buys TGP sites at 50cents on the dollar or less without hesitation. The trades above the bookmarks have no real value, so third party stats become important to verify, as well as if traffic is being fed into a site from other urls on a meta refresh or the like. Saying a TGP is worthless is as dumb a statement as saying a community newspaper with a 1,000,000/day circulation is worthless. Advertising revenue is not something to be ignored. Some are worthless, but many have REAL value.

go sell your mighty tgp for what you think its worth. let me know when you have a buyer.
Traffic disappears far faster than revenue.
traffic is cheap.
