Help please guys what does it mean for an average joe like me
I promote american sites, I use american hosting. wtf do i need to do?
Do you anticipate the US cops, comming over to England then and checking to see if you have the correct documentation? Unless they do and get a warrant, how will they know your not compliant.
If they do come over, get a search warrant for a law that isnt even a British law and infact against the EU laws of privacy, they then check your record keeping, do you anticipate that they will get an extradition order?
Is it only American laws you want to comply with, or do you plan to comply with laws in every other country in the world?
if you live in the uk even though your promoting us sites. You really dont have to worry, they are not going to send the FBI all the way to the UK to examine your records.
I would be very cautios, the US just arrested the CEO of a british stock exchange noted company when he entered the US. Be prepared to never visit the US if you don't follow their laws.

guys you may well joke about this shit, but if an englishman breaks an american law. by english law the americans are allowed to come in and arrest us and then stand in a u.s. court of law. they do infact have juristiction in the uk.
it however does not hold the other way round which some say is unfair, but lets not bullshit about politics.
I hear what you all say though and I will move hosting after I use up my free months.
but I absolutley find it totally BOLLOCKS that there are scum out there that do promote child porn and these rules are being brought in coz of them, they are absolute fucking scum, and they are just not ruining children. FUCK THEM. I am usually neutral towards crime but these sick fuckers are affecting a huge industry. sorry for the rant.
edit- or maybe these rules are part of a larger initiative, i think mr soul said something about internet2 - the plan to make the internet like tv and no small timers involved. could be,,, could be slowly but surely

Your to stupid to run a website you should give up. Im not joking thats serious. How on earth would they know you are not keeping the records how they want and what makes you think any UK court would give them access to look when the law is against EU laws.
I just worry about the influence america has on the world especially on england. tony blairs nose is seriously brown at the moment.
and dont listen to what goodomains has to say...
hes an idiot
So you think the US police are going to try and inforce an American law that is against EU laws, in England and come to you place of business in the UK and try and make sure you are keeping docs in the way they want?
Seriously get a grip. If you are worried in any way, put up a 2257 page showing your address in England and let them send some police men.
And still there is no answer to weather or not the Fbi are just going after content producers and or affiliates (average Joe) that advertises that content?????????????????.
Scottybuzz, our laws have to take precedence and the data protection act which was revised to include data stored electronically would prohibit you ever divulging that info. If the FBI ever in their wisdom decided to send a taskforce over to East Anglia to check out your info they would need to go through the courts etc. Most unlikely.

BTW... I'd move hosting out of the US. If you are not complying with US laws - that's kinda reasonable.
Other than that - fire ahead Scotty and earn.

You are misinformed. Technically, Americans can arrest people here in England but this only happens when the English courts have agreed to extradite an individual to the US. The person will be legally arrested by an American law enforcement officer when the English authorities hand over custody, which usually happens in a prison, at a police station or at the airport prior to departure.
In your case these technicalities are irrelevant. An individual can only be extradited for a charge which has an equivalent in English law. Obvious examples would be murder, rape, theft etc. England has no equivalent law to 2257, so nobody could be extradited for non-compliance.
However, I personally would never risk travelling to or through the US. I think it's just a matter of time before some poor bastard webmaster gets himself arrested getting off a plane in the US.
Look out everyone outside the US.. The sky is falling...
I haven't seen so much shit here, but at Least Lee and one or two others have explained that we live in the UK.. We follow UK laws not US... Well not yet .. LOL
I also line in the UK, and to be on the safe side, I changed my host to an Amsterdam data centre.
Job done, can't be touched.
I live outside the US and I host outside the US.
Sorry to say you could'nt be more wrong.
