Let's say you have some adwords and they convert like crazy for the price and a sponsor can see how much money your makeing and where the traffic is coming from and then they start buying from the same source you were useing to promote their program is this fair game?
Is it fair for a sponsor to move in on your turf?

all is fair in love and war. business is business.
we would never do that. mainly because we feel the people doing it are professionals and they would do a better job then we would. as they have the time and knowledge to do it the right way.
running paysites is what we do. buying PPC is what they do. it works out well this way.Comment

It's probably fair, but perhaps ungrateful.
1. You can take your business elsewhere.
2. Maybe in the future you can get an agreement that sponsors won't compete in such ways with you.Comment

The best way is to start your own program, better, and take all the sales.

nothing new, this happens all the time in both mainstream and adult. You just got to suck it up and deal with it.
I find it happening more often with sponsor programs which are small and med in size, but not so much with larger well established programs..

You took the thought right out of my head!Originally posted by the Shempthat would be "business"
And a business response to a situation like this, if you were thinking from a business perspective...hypothetically would be:
1) Build a site, become your own sponsor.
2) Cut your prices and do something unique or interesting with your site.
3) Launch an affiliate program and match or beat the competition payouts. (contests, swag, the whole 9)
4) Make sure to find an effective way to let other people that advertise those type of sites know about your new program.
/TheJimmy shakes his head and remembers he's on GFY and wonders why he just typed all of that out!? Thinks to himself, maybe I just drank too much coffee and felt like wasting some breath (figuratively speaking of course).

This same thing really pisses me off. I know there's nothing you can do about it but you have sponsors contact you and hype up their new sites and tell you to send traffic to them....and then they go buy traffic from the same places you do and compete with you for the same signups.
It's basically a slap in the face.
It's kind of like Exxon or Shell opening up a gas station across the street from one of their most successful resellers.
It's technically "fair" and "legal" but it still sucks. The original station owner took all of the risk and once the oil company saw that the market was successful they stepped in and undercut their reseller.sig too bigComment

it's worse when they convert, then they just shave your ass
happened all the time back in the casino biz... i wrote software installers that made millions of signups. all copied by the program runners, who never paid me a dime... and of course they are out of business, and I am still here, just gotta be smarter then the average bear and know when to say fuck you and move on.... average lifetime of affiliate to sponsor relationship these days is about 2 months...... which is why all the sponsors now have about 60 programs each..Comment

I bought tgp spots once because their were no competing galleries for the sponsor I was using, and then the tgp owners started listing his galleries with his ref codes of the same sponsor I was using.. he figured if I'd pay $1k for a spot, it must make money and fuck me.
Needless to say, I never did business with them again.Last edited by ~Ray; 08-03-2006, 01:52 PM.Comment

Google is cracking down on this in a way. If your site sole purpose is to direct traffic to another site they'll eventually shut your campaigns down.Originally posted by jigghide your adwords, pass the adwords traffic thru your own domain first
How ever if you placed their domain name their first then you should be fine unless they use another site/domain name.
1 of my best adwords campaigns got closed for being a "bridge" and then I couldn't use the original domain name because another affiliate was there first with it.
Dude go study some high price per click/high volume keyword/s ad copy and try to incorporate their style/ main points in your ad copy to boost your ctr.
Keep working on your ctr and copy and you should do fine.Comment
