    Questions for TGP site gurus

    I want to move a site and all the tgp galleries I have on it to another server.

    I know it takes x amount of days for the DNS to activate. Will my galleries be affected during the move? I don't want TGP owners to get messages saying my galleries are no long active, or some other negative messages, and then blacklisting me for it.

    What advice or information do you have for me regarding this?

      Setup a temporary redirect while you're waiting for the domain to register. Switching DNS servers on a reliable registrar like DirectNIC (if the domain is already registered and active and the domains are setup on the new servers) only takes a few minutes for the US; internationally the switch is made within a few hours usually. You shouldn't have much trouble if you have everything ready to go when you do the actual DNS switch

          I think what you should do is upload all your new content (galleries) to your new hosting, and then do the DNS switch when it's all uploaded. If the DNS was not updated for them, they'll still be able to access it on the old hosting as that's where the domain will point. When the DNS updates, it'll point to the new hosting. There shouldn't be any point in between.

          Besides, if your galleries are down, you don't get blacklisted, you just get the gallery dropped from the TGP.

          In the event you do get blacklisted, send them a message and they'll understand.

                  Unfortunately, I am not .htaccess or CHMOD savvy.

                  But I could definitely upload my files ahead of time as you both recommended.

                      It can take up to 72 hours for dns to resolve, but like it was said above, just upload your files to the new server, no big deal, and keep the old server active with all the files for at least three days, there will not be any downtime at all.

                          There really is no need to do any CHMOD or .htaccess so you should be fine...

                              There is no need to upload anything if you select a real host. They will transfer everything for you.
