Experience with HP notebooks?

Hp=Compaq I have 2 and they both work great, as always though, open the box, burn your system disks, format the hard drive install windows and go to their website and download your drivers and then you'll be ok, really fast after you kill off that bloatware

I like my HP. Had it about a year now, no problems at all. Haven't even had to resintall Windows on it yet!

HATE my HP

would never buy another hp. More problems with TWO of them. the first one i sent in for repair under warrenty and they fucking lost the machine. Took them 5 fucking months to replace it.

the new one has hardware issues after 6 month and i dont want to send it back cause who knows if i will ever see it again.

fucking pieces of shit machines shitty customer services shitty all around experience.

I had one for about 4 years, Had to put it in the shop 3 times. First was the power connection on the mother board came loose. Turns out HP knew about it. Then it broke again. Then the hinges on the screen broke and had to be replaced, and then the power plug broke again. ALLL OUT OF WARRANTY, by 43 days.

I am no big fan of HP products.

I work on 2 HP`s here also.
Pavilion`s, they traveled with me everywhere to the most bizarre locations

And those 2 are working for now minimal 2 years each. and they are strong.
I always preferred HP. I just don't trust Toshiba and Samsung. But that's a personal opinion

Mine works 3 years without any problems.
A friend of mine had the same - had hdd failure in warranty, they replaced it but came back after warranty expired... than he replaced hdd for the 2nd time and got the same problem third time and then he god mad and thrown it away...

So like you see - it depends

I've only used HP for about 4 years now. I used to get dells and toshiba but they always died pretty fast. HP's have really held up for me. I've got a DV9000 right now and I love it.

been using hp laptops for the last 4 years. Like what civmatt said, reformat and reinstall just the drivers and you will be good to go!

now if only voodoopc made a 15.4 or bigger id buy right away =(

avoid nVidia in laptops

The HP/Compaq and Dell notebook issues of the last year and a half are all related to nVidia graphics. I'm a hardware geek, and any laptop with nVidia graphics of the 9400/9600 variety especially are vulnerable to overheating issues, lockups, wireless connectivity issues and finally complete failure of the system. My current laptop is about to be returned for the third repair...so I am experiencing this firsthand. The OEM's are extending warranties, but they are replacing the bad parts with new defective parts that will fail again.

If you're a hardcore geek and want all the details, go to www dot theinquirer dot net (no, it's not the one with celebrity gossip - it's the US edition of the Register). If you're into wafer fabrication, nanometers, and ultraviolet lithography...they have the articles that give you all that good stuff.

The easy answer is to buy only ATI hardware in a laptop at this time. nVidia is not revealing the full extent of the hardware issues and they are selling NEW machines at retail with these defective cards. Even the new Macbooks with the nVidia chips are affected.

...and no, I'm not an AMD fanboy...nVidia was awesome until this stuff hit the fan. The good news is, the current batch of AMD graphics chips and cards are downright awesome for a change.

I use HP Pavilion series notebooks for almost what 4 years now. Switching to a new model every 2 years. Seem to be doing alright for now. But a friend of mine got himself a DV5 series and had it returned to the shop for a refund. It was giving him various problems. I guess it depends...

Never been a fan of HP....picked up one really cheap to try it...and its great. No problems at all...

i dont like having to get my machine fixed, especially since my samsung was running for 3 years, day and night without a single problem

have had zero problems with my 2.5 year old HP with nvidia graphics


Hp is a great choice due to the fact that the pavilions are loaded with ports that most other laptops don't even have

I'm happy with mine and bought another HP recently too


one thing I must say is check the keyboard before you buy, the one I just got has really small 'shift' keys so that they could accomodate the 'arrow' keys into the rectangular keyboard..... I don't link that and prefer a standard keyboard that has the 'arrow' keys down a bit out of the rectangular formation

from what i read the problem with nvidia is with chips made after may 07
that is probably why you are fine
