some sponsors are getting really bad at affiliate support

not all, there are still many that are great, but it seems like more and more lately alot of programs take forever to respond to emails (some not at all)...... often when asking a question or two of a sponsor you haven't been dealing with it makes you wonder if the emails get lost in some server black-hole.... makes you wonder if some sponsors are on auto-pilot with no updates or human intervention at all

(either that or many don't bother to check their overzealous spam filters)

Not as bad as mainstream. I joined a brand new site after it opened up on cj. They approved me, never put links up I sent 2 emails 10 days apart.. . Nothing, still no links.

The way things are going I expect there will be a lot less support for webmasters. The slowdown has effected content producers and now I expect programs looking to remain profitable will be cutting back on others costs.

Live with it. Because it will not get better.
