sue them at every turn make them work for theese laws and spend the money

like any good orginazation the name and main operators of this orginazation will not appear to have any ties to the adult industry but the purpose of the orginazation will be the same

OK... Throw some thoughts at ya -

Bearing in mind the net is international, is there something in having an international org to represent the industry - possibly with sub-sections for any interested country?

Legal assets are one aspect, tho there are plenty opps to link up at other levels in various ways and this may not be simply limited to "webmasters", but possibly include ISP's who have an interest in adult hosting or are involved in transactiong funds for adult websites etc?

It may be.. tho only my , that unless the industry begins to police itself and shows that this is being done in practice - it remains open to attack by both governments and individuals. The "front end" (basically lobbying and advocacy) is inclined to fall apart when detrimental facts are thrown on the table and, sometimes these can be indefensible.

There are currently a number of orgs performing what is CP-related "management". However, there may be room for this from the adult industry itself and with direct reporting and liason with domestic law enforcement agencies internationally. (Truth is - it's easier and more effective to deal direct). Whether "we" think issues like CP are not part of the industry, still does not force others to think otherwise. Again, there is an education function involved, which could be part of the role of such an org.

Next thought is a long story, but basically along the lines of adopting "standards". An element of that may go along the lines of developing a "standard" for website entry/access with the object of inhibiting/terminating minors accessing adult content. The method, implementation and legal aspects could possibly be covered on an international basis (particularly taking account of varying domestic laws).

Little doubts, you are 100% correct in that any org working on behalf of the adult industry does need to be managed and handled by professionals who can bring expertise with them - whether that is lawyers with experience of this industry and qualified ex law enforcement employees blah.

Another possible aspect tho may seem out on a limb, is finance and banking expertise. There are prob several areas where they can play a role - some being on payment processing systems and either developing or working in liason with existing transaction providers to cover all regional possibilities.

No doubts you are aware of a "weakness" in for example, third party processing where a processing company can have full access to webmaster funds in addition to their own processing fees and profit element. This has proven to be a major problem for many clients of these companies and something that could possibly be tightened up thru an org representing the industry.

This stuff is endless - It's wherever you want to take it But underneath, there can be many benefits overall to such an org - even down to simply providing legal/financial/business advice to a webmaster/member.


PS Depending on the precise role and aims - funding for such an org need not be limited to those contributing from the adult industry - there are possibilities of funding from many sources, oddly - including governments.

That's not what he's talking about at all.

He's talking about this industry forming a lobby group to represent us in Washington, as every other major industry in the USA does. Hopefully the FSC can develop into something better than what they currently are. At least it's an attempt.

I agree that we should step up. I think the absolute first thing, from a PR, moral, obligatory stand point and to show that we are not the enemy is to illustrate that we are AGAINST CP like every one else. If we could come up with something, a peace offering/show of face against this, that would be the first step.

If we could come up with something, something that works and is effective (maybe the 'standards' mentioned above), something to make people say, 'Hm...well, those people are actually professional. They are not promoting THAT stuff'. I would say that is a good start while simultaneously organizing in the background.

How bout' an "Adult is not for children" campaign. Just spouting food for thought here. Maybe 'sting' operations with official cooperation like they did with MySpace? Or become more 'watch dogish'. Someone aid in thought here. I like the topic starters way of thinking here.

When you look at the whole industry, I doubt we have seen anything yet by way of "opposition". Smell that will be increased when any other international org gets there first.

Example... and this is not entirely a negative thing - least initially. Eventually ICANN as we know it will go. It was already scheduled to be terminated, or passed over to an international org in August, but that is no longer going to happen - least not right now.

Many countries have been pressuring for international representation on domain TLD's and it is inevitable this will happen at some future time.

In theory, this is fine. It is certainly more democratic than ICANN currently is. However, international orgs can have a habit of getting out of control (like most orgs/govts) and when that happens - who is going to be the voice for the adult industry? There is none.

The danger is when decisions are made on an international level, they are very hard to change. EG.. If someone dreamed up a ghetto situation for adult only domains with a whatever TLD, and where all countries were participating in this org - basically, it can end up a take-it-or-leave-it scenario for everyone in the adult biz. Problem time

There are plenty of programmers here. We could write a child safe web browser. I know there are programs out there, but the point is that WE created one, and for FREE. We could offer tips for parents, etc. I can program with Delphi, I'll help write a proggie that will help us help 'them'.

Your point is well taken but the real point here is that we as an industry contribute and show that we are aware of netrocities and that we are also against it. It would be more of a first move on our part to demonstrate that we do not condone such activities nor do we participate or propogate them.

We all know this industry only exists of people meaning good and there would be no indiviuals who immediatly started to make sites especially for your browser just because it's an easy marketplace without competition. All this would do is create a whole new marketplace for the bad part of the industry.

Only thing you can really do is point parents to their responsibilities. I remeber a post about this from last week (was about myspace but it was the same stuff)

That is the exact line of thinking/strategy that we need to undertake. The only thing that differentiates us from the tobacco example is the fact that we actually do NOT want to see cp. We ARE on the right side here. For us do something, anything, as a good will gesture could really help us out and get the ball rolling for us to 'organize' and demonstrate that we are a legitimate and profitable industry that benefits the business world (taxes) and everyday society (posterity).

We could simply spin it right back by saying, 'We are legit and just like you (mainstream) we have families, are aware of the netrocities, and would like to prevent such atrocious behaviors from continuing. We are also doing what we can to prevent and stop such activities. Our industry is for adults and adults only...blah blah blah..." You get the idea.

I think its a few things, the big guys want the gov to crack down gets rid of lots of competition. Also the attitude its not me not my problem. Also on the net they are nerds so dont have the fuck them attitude.I remember at a show a big fish saying about Acacia you got a millions dollars to fight them???, then eventually posts here looking to buy a million dollar boat. That says it all. lol

I think this industry needs something more in line with a Mafia or something. Some webmasters need the threat of bad things happening to them in order to fall in line and do whats right for the industry.

Heres an idea..
we vote on the type of government that shall be the governing body of adult from within. Then, whomever wants to be president, or whatever is relevant to the type of government we choose, the people vote on that person(s) to allow them to take the helm. Because one thing for sure.. the people who "THINK" they are the spokes people and "Leaders" of our industry currently, arent leaders of anything in my book, and in many other peoples books too. so we would definatley have to start from scratch with an electoral process to ensure that everyone is heard and its not some oligarchy ran by the dinosaurs of yesterday who think they speak for us today.
