*** Cell phone rant of the day! ***

I have the Treo 700w and I'm digging it for now. Some OS crashing once in a while but it's basically "ok". Some things I really like! Some not so much! A month ago when it was new and shiny - I loved it. Now, I'm thinking "what should I get next?"

    ...but you know what?

It comes down to the lesser of many evils when it comes to cell phones and providers these days.

    How's the:

    actual coverage service?
    voice quality?
    price/plans?
    features? (email/surfing/contact list/organizer/etc)
    doodads? (camera w/ flash/video recorder/stylus pen w/touch screen/smart wheel/etc)
    MP3 player?
    Video player(s)

    So many fucking choices/wants/needs!

Someone needs to come out with a phone that does what iPod's done for portable music ... just covers all the bases and you don't have to think about shit but use it ... and have it fuckin' be reliable!

I need a mini-freakin' computer phone that houses all my contacts and scheduled events, that's durable, with a battery that lasts ALL DAY, that's small enough to fit comfortably in my pocket AND has a damn keyboard that I can use that isn't so cramped that I keep hitting "side keys" AND won't be "old" in 6 months!

    Ok?

    Motorola?
    Palm?
    Sony?
    NOKIA?

Any of you other cell phone fucks out there?

    Hook it up!

    Thanks!

It's that piece of shit new MySpace phone.

On the serious tip though, I'd check out the Motorola Q. Heard nothing but good things about it, and you can use it on any GSM provider.

                      LOL

I hear good and bad things about the Q.

I beat the hell out of my phones (I've carried 2 for the past few years)

Would love to only carry one but like I said not one covers EVERYTHING i need and so I keep a backup for a number of reasons

I could see someone out on a date with this phone and the girl would think you're trying to impress her by talking in to a calculator...

1.3 megapixel cameras? What is this, 2004?

J, if you need a great all around phone, you can't beat Sony Ericcson K750. I've had every Nokia, the shitty Razr, and every Samsung imaginable...but the best overall phone is the K750. It's well thought out, has a good camera with a flash (you could opt for the K800 w/ 3.15 megapixels, but it's a little bigger than the 750) Bluetooth, video player, FM radio, speakerphone, an MP3 player w/ a decent speaker, and best of all, a Memory Stick port! I have a 1 GB and can hold more pictures and MP3's than I could ever dream of. I slip the memory stick out of my Vaio and put it right in the phone. Great for storing files like a USB drive as well. Plus, tons of support from other peeps including a bunch of custom themes and hacks. Very intuitive text messaging and the flash even doubles as a flashlight. Sound quality is great and gets good reception in my area. Battery is decent. Here she is:

First problem with the Motorola Q is it doesn't support EDGE = no high speed internet..

Second thing for best coverage get on Cingulars network

I just picked this up yesterday - Cingular 8125

I hear good and bad things about the Q.

I beat the hell out of my phones (I've carried 2 for the past few years)

Would love to only carry one but like I said not one covers EVERYTHING i need and so I keep a backup for a number of reasons
I hear ya, I'm much in the same boat.

Personally I've been carrying a blue tooth enabled phone, and my Bluetooth PDA from Dell around for quite some time. Handles everything for me, but much as in your case, would be nice to have everything simplified down to one device.

dude! you couldn't have put this thread up at a better time. i'm looking at cingular's site right now after bitching at them on the phone about my treo650 (PalmOS) - it fucking SUCKS. it was good, but it freezes a couple times a week, i miss calls, it won't send pics in txt messages when i try it gives me an internal error and when i send *just* text it makes other people think i'm sending them a picture!

so...right now i'm considering a blackberry. i'm stuck with cingular. i'm thinking the newer one with the full qwerty keyboard (which i know i can change to dvorak, if you're a nerd like me, you'd do that - lol) - the 8700c i think it's called? everyone i know who has one loves them.

                                                        good luck J!!!

gotta say the blackberry 8700 and the plackberry 7100t is not bad at all...doesnt have all the bells and whistles like video camera or phto camera, mp3 player stuff but for biz apps alone this is the best damn thing invented
