mainstream click thru rates are sliding down

noticing a slow slide down of click through rates on mainstream sites... it is like the average surfer out there is becoming more and more adblind. If your site is quality at all, the surfer seems to avoid clicking on any ads at all.

the last year has seen things getting harder to extract an honest dollar out of anything lately, and with the bad economy one could see click prices lower too, which is a double whammy

look how dramatically legal traffic drops down this month

it's gathered alexa reach/mil data for 8k paysites. actually we have 23% down

i thinks they calibrate their data, so if users are dropping toolbars we'll see more smooth statistics, which count that factor.

i agree that Alexa data are far from ideal, but they are pretty fine for monitoring the trend. and we use only reach/mil index, which is the most correct.

it would be good to hear some facts from you which prove that we can't use combined Alexa data for monitoring the trend.

btw currently we are not able to show dynamic for previous months (we will fix it soon), but in Oct we watched the growth. though it already seems to be smaller than the drop we see now.

That is because most banners are positioned wrong, and the pages are flooded with them. Its like 10 salesmen trying to present their product at the same time, you cant hear what they are saying.

A banner needs to be presented well, before getting any quality clicks

Youtube is worth what Google paid for it. With their video ID technology kicking in (i.e. giving security to content owners) and the competition from hulu and the acceptance of more traditional advertising and content I think youtube will finally start to make some decent money as they introduce more professional content. Hell the ancient MacGyver videos added by CBS with full advertising are getting 3k+ views a day. Wait until the site is full of quality content.
