I Can't Wait to Get Out of This Cesspool of a Country...

The magic month: May, 2007. I was planning to go over to Argentina for a month to see how I liked it and then make the move permenant in July, 2007 if all went well. Anymore, I am thinking that I might just leave and never come back.

These are all furnished places, so they are listed for much more than what they'd go for unfurnished, just like here in the states. But look at what $900 a month buys you there verus here. The stuff they rent for $900 a month there fully furnished would rent for $1500 a month here unfurnished.

Let it never be said that the United States has the best quality of living. The more I read and look and learn, the more convinced I am that its all one big fat lie. This country is such a rotten pile of steaming rat shit anymore its not even worth trying to exist in. What point is there in working all your life to support this disgusting system of government we have created where waste and incomptence is not only prevelent but rewarded?

I am sure the Argentine government has its own problems. In fact, I know it does. The difference is while the government is having its problems, at least I'll be able to enjoy my life to the fullest.

We should really all vacate the United States.

Thank you, I feel better now. And now, back to your regularly sceduled patriotic flag waving bullshit.

This mean you are *actually* free from the US - or still a citizen and obliged to pay US taxes even from Argentina?

Sure minusonebit ... one thing that will hit you in the face is the freedom from bullshit - and a massive upgrading in quality of life. I did this decades ago, tho not from the US - and no way, - ever - would I dream of going back. (In fact, a good few friends have now done the same - could not leave quick enough )

I am working on a tax scheme I need to run by someone more knowledgeable than I to determine the legality thereof. Basically, it would go something like this:

I form a corporation here and there both. I am an employee of both corporations and paid as such. The US corporation pays me a salary of $1 less than the then-current poverty level, so that any taxes withheld would come back to me in a refund. With the rest of the funds, the US corp contracts my AR corp for "management and adminstrative services" as a contract consultant. Then the AR corp pays me as an employee of the corp and I pay taxes on whatever is needed there. The bulk of my income would be paid out from the AR corp.

I dont want to give up my citizenship because it would make re-entry more of a pain for coming back to visit friends and such. Not to mention, I have considered working in the US for a couple months out of the year. Hell, you could almost make enough running a paper route or working at McDonalds for a couple months to live in AR for a whole year. I dont want to have to carry a green card in my birth country.

For as much pleasure as it would give me to go down to the INS office and offically renounce my citizenship, thats a pleasure I dont think I will allow myself. At least not yet.

Got ya!! Smells problematic man - it's not an uncommon scenario, but very hard to implement as long as there is US citizenship involved.

You are prob already aware tho - the IRS will live allowances of around $80K year for foreign residency.

It may also be worth checking if there is any actual taxation due in Argentina for earnings outside that country - ie.. are net earning subject to taxation in Argentina. Several countries do not have taxation for stuff like net earnings - Costa Rica is one and there is no problems with Panama on this.

Damn.. just checked... Argentina is not a geo-based tax system but based on "worldwide income and profits" This is where that US citizenship thing becomes a problem again - example: If that did not exist, you can literally do what the hell you like and have corps in other low or no tax areas and not have to waste any time on tax reporting.

Another clue is... and I never did ask - almost all US expats I know always seem to be earning around $78K/year - a few K below the IRS allowance limits (But hell.. that gets them a far higher lifestyle in places like central and south America even if that was a genuine statement of earnings)

That's a pretty cool site even if you're just planning a vacation somewhere rather than a permanent move.

Strange people are the human race

Glance over the posts above and check all forms of bitching because someone wants to experience living in another country.

There sure is a lot of hatred in some societies - fortunately they are not all like that.

So that's why you bitched your own countrymen because they were interested in escaping? The logic is missing, but a good try anyways.

Sticky dosent realize the difference between hating the COUNTRY itself and hating the GOVERNMENT, which gives the COUNTRY a bad name. This country used to stand for something respectable, honest and worthwhile. It was worth fighting for, worth protecting, worth trying to make it work. Today, this country stands for the same things that so many people have died trying to prevent way back when. The United States now represents waste, stupidity, power mongering and corruption. This a page torn right from the GOP playbook: anyone who disgarees with the ruling power hates the country, is unpatriotic and so on. These are the same tactics Hitler used to get Germany under his spell.

You're right. All of my money goes to pay for this tax and this fee and this charge and this program. Its not gonna be getting any better and I am tired of it. I refuse to work to support other people who dont wanna work and would rather stay on welfare, and to support a government thats spending is spiraling out of control with no end in sight. I'm not going to do it anymore.

As for a classier exit? This isnt a webmaster show or a movie production. I'd much rather just go than worry about making a classier exit.

Actually Webby, you haven't been entirely fair in assessing this thread, because the hate started with the first post and people responded to it. Let me explain. If minusonebit wrote this as the thread topic:

                                                                  Title: I'm moving to Argentina!!!

Subject: I found a great place to live, I absolutely love it here and you wouldn't believe the low rent I'm paying! Check out these places I found on Craigslist....
Now, do you see the difference in tone that would create? He would have been congratulated on his move, he would have had best wishes tossed at him, and that would have been that.

He started the "hate syndrome" and people knee-jerked reacted to it. Why wouldn't they? I don't think America is a cesspool, in fact I'm going to turn 33 years old in August, I own (paid off the mortgage by the time I was 30) a rather nice house on Long Island, I have no trouble paying my bills, and I happen to live in one of the highest taxed areas in America, but it doesn't matter to me because I make more than enough money to support myself and have a very nice lifestyle. Yes, my quality of living is very good in fact. Now, why would anyone readily agree that their country is a cesspool if that's not their experience?

Now, if he had posted the message I wrote, with no hate, no malice to a system he couldn't thrive in, well...would he have gotten the reaction he had gotten? If he did, then I would completely agree with you, but since he didn't I can say that you turned your blinders on to how the hate ball started rolling

Many people dont have a car there as I understand they arent needed as much. Less cars = less need for gas stations. Palermo sure seems to have its share of night life, food, vending and such. The US is not the only place that has needed stuff closeby and accessiable.

Good for you. There are plenty of people here that are rich. Its not impossible to live well here. I am saying its not worth the effort. Why should I work extra hard to make a broken system bear fruit for me? Its like a farmer planting your crop in the soil you know is only of marginal quality when you have another field next to you that you currently graze your sheep in (pun intended) that has soil of exceptional quality. Living in America is not making your assets work the hardest they can for you.

Its not my "failure to thrive" in this country that pisses me off. I dont like the way this country is run (I havent for some time. At first I was quiet about it, then I bitched, then I screamed and now I'm just ready to blow a gasket.) and I have grown to have an immense dislike, yes, a hatred, for the ignorance of the masses who continue to put some of these jokers back into office time and time again. I dont see the situation getting better.

I honestly dont even really care what anyone on here thinks about this subject. Those who want to wish me well may do so and thier well wishes are appreicated. Those who want to pray for my demise may also do so and they can go fuck themselves. Those who want to do something in between can do so and whatever. I'm not looking for community support or donations, so there is no need to polish up the post like I am seeking venture capital or something.

It was a spur of the moment post made after I just got done reading a fresh dose of the daily news which shows yet again how fucked our society here is.

Many people dont have a car there as I understand they arent needed as much. Less cars = less need for gas stations. Palermo sure seems to have its share of night life, food, vending and such. The US is not the only place that has needed stuff closeby and accessiable.

Even discounting the auto shops and gas stations. I've been to South America alot (not to Buenos Aires though), and have never seen any city come close (like not even an 8th of the amount) to having the shops and general stores/products/services available in the large American cities.

It's incredible when you realise you take for granted on a daily basis back in the States. Don't get me wrong, I had a blast on the vacation and would do it again. It's easy to let some things go, especially when you know you're only on vacation and will be home eventually. But living indefinitely without some of those things is a VERY drastic change.

                                                                                      I hear ya Mr Blue

OK... Let's reverse rolls (and this happens to be actual fact in real life and on many occasions)... What minusonebit said is so typical of folks when they just get pissed off (usually in civilized countries) and not just the US.

Never counted... but got to be near 100 now over the last few years who came on the phone or chatted and their tone was very similar to what minusonebit was saying. Basically they have reached a point of "I've had enough" (and many sure have good reason). These folks ended up shipping out to enjoy, basically a better lifestyle in other countries - a good number ended up in the Caribbean or Latin America.

On many occasions they are from my home country and are trashing it to hell and back - but I don't tell them to piss off or adopt some "offended attitude" Often what they are saying I'd totally agree with and would sure totally support anyone who has an interest in getting out into the world and having a look around. (BTW.. That also has nothing to do with "hating" a country - everywhere has some good stuff going for it)

This thread is really based on... dunno.. a mix of the usual GFY diatribe and flippancy and a touch of patriotism stuff which is really unique to the US. Embedded in "patriotism" is a need to "defend" and a touch of malice can be used to do the defending - and that's really what is showing thru here. Least, that's my worth

PS... For amusement... here's a pile of quotes on patriotism
                                                                                      http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Patriotism

It's incredible when you realise you take for granted on a daily basis back in the States. Don't get me wrong, I had a blast on the vacation and would do it again. It's easy to let some things go, especially when you know you're only on vacation and will be home eventually. But living indefinitely without some of those things is a VERY drastic change.
When I shipped out and became an ex-pat potter - I thought exactly the same thing

On two occasions I even asked groups of expats how long they wanted to live "outside" and when were they thinking of going back to their home countries. On both times - the place went silent and got weird looks as tho I'd just gone insane

Apart from to visit family - nobody was dreaming of ever going back to their home countries on a permanent basis. They had no reason to and were living far better lifestyles than they ever thought possible.

Tho.. in fairness.. there is no "inconvenience factors" - ya want something? There is a store not far away - but the main element is in the total laid back lifestyle.
