UN troops were and are in Lebanon. UN troops are always ineffective. Move in NATO forces if one wants an effective force.Originally posted by Mr. SoulThe people who live there right now about the rightful imhabitants. They shouldn't be walled in to one massive concentration camp.
I think the world has to step in and stop this once and for all. Move UN troops into every waring country, and disarm their militaries. Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria. Just cover these countries with international troops and tell them, look assholes, if you can't figure out how to stop shooting eachother, we'll fucking show you. Treat the entire region like children. First nation that fires another shot gets a complete trade embargo.Comment

UN troops are no different to NATO troops or any others.
The function required is more related to cooling a scenario than bombing the shit out of it. A mix of UN forces with a mandate is clearly more appropriate in this scenario and, little doubts, that is the way it is heading.
NATO does not represent the international community and it is not an "independent broker".
PS Iraq has recently been considering a UN peace force in that country - it's obvious why. US forces were never trained to handle any scenario that involved "firm diplomacy" - this has been demonstrated for decades. no, you don't understand...Originally posted by LadyMischiefI understand that you are in Israel, and I understand your loyalty to your country, but can you not even for ONE moment take the blinders off and see that people aren't bashing your country saying stuff like this, they are speaking the truth. Israel is a young country, build on land that has been in dispute and fought over for... let's face it, THOUSANDS of years. If you think for a moment that's not a valid point, get your head out of your ass.
and no, they are not speaking the truth, because they (and you) don't know all the facts...
and no, you will never understand, so it's not even worth the discussion...
for a legitimate discussion to occur, the two sides must have SOME common basic assumptions...

Gaza in particular, was never anything other than a concentration camp Mr S. Over half the population live in eight refugee camps. One in particular, with one of the highest densities of population in the world - 79,000 living in two thirds of a square mile (kilometer). Over 75% of the current estimated population of around 1.4 million are registered refugees.Originally posted by Mr. SoulNo, the Palestinians are being walled in. To expect anything other than an explosion from places like Gaza where people are under oppression and with little resources, is like living in lala land.
Latest news report from the Gaza area:
Palestinians die in Israeli raids
At least nine Palestinians have been killed in fresh Israeli operations in Gaza and the West Bank.
Under heavy gunfire Israeli tanks entered Mughazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip before dawn.
At least six Palestinians, including a number of militants, were killed in the latest incursion in a three-week operation in Gaza by the Israelis.
Later, three Palestinians were shot by Israeli troops in the West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian sources said.
Civilians are among the dozens of Palestinians who have died in the Israeli assault on Gaza, launched after an Israeli soldier was captured by Palestinian militants.
Many injured
The Israeli army said five of its soldiers were injured in the operation, which saw some 30 Israeli armoured vehicles in the camp by sunrise, residents told the Associated Press news agency.
Israel is also reported to have carried out air strikes on the camp.
An army spokeswoman said the operation aimed "to target terror infrastructure" in the camp, "as part of the ongoing effort in which one of its main targets is getting back [captured Israeli Cpl] Gilad Shalit and stop the launching of Qassam rockets," news agency AFP reported.
At least 45 Palestinians, including children, were wounded, Palestinian hospital officials said.
According to Israel Radio, Israel is also shelling sites in Gaza which were used to launch Qassam rockets over into the western Negev on Tuesday evening.
Israel launched its military offensive in the Gaza Strip three weeks ago after Cpl Shalit was abducted by militants linked to Hamas's military wing.
Its Gaza assault prompted international calls for restraint, but a UN resolution urging Israel to stop the offensive was vetoed by the United States at the Security Council last week.Last edited by Webby; 07-19-2006, 04:26 PM.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

Your shift at McDonalds finished?Originally posted by Sexxxy SitesJust like "firm diplomacy" has worked well for the UN troops in Lebanon? I repeat UN troops are not an effective force for anything other than handing out aid packages.
Absorb and learn Sexy - depending on the mandate under which any troops operate is the criteria as to whether they are effective. Currently UN troops in Lebanaon do not have an appropriate mandate and this is currently being addressed.
If troops are mandated to hand out "aid packages" - that is what they will do. That is currently not the mandate of UN troops in Lebanon.
Where do you get this "effective force" from? Are you now suggesting a fighting force for this region? If so, that is all the US could offer, - but sometimes there is need for some common sense and firmness in negotiating a calm in an area - that does not mean bombing the shit out of it.
Basically you are not even qualified even discuss the Middle East - you live in the US and are fed the biggest pile of shit leaving you to form opinions which are both irrelvant and ignorant. Bottom line - you have nothing to offer the Middle East or any other nation.Last edited by Webby; 07-19-2006, 07:30 PM.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

If I am not mistaken and going by memory the UN mandate in Lebanon was to help the Lebanese government to rid itself of Hezballa and any other armed militias as provided by UN Resolution 1559. Hezballa is stronger than ever in Lebanon. Yes indeed UN force and diplomacy worked very well. They will not be quite as strong when Israel is finished with them.Originally posted by WebbyYour shift at McDonalds finished?

Yup, the US is good at regime change (long history there). Not very good at nation-building. That is just that. Lost of reasons. Legitimacy, lack of national constabularies, use of regulary military tactics personnel and leadership for "peace-keeping", poor intelligence.Originally posted by WebbyBTW Sicko Sexy... But are nation-building tasks "harder" than military ones? Moving a military halfway across the world and then occupying a capital in 21 days is "very hard".

The Iran-Iraq war itself caused more death than whole israel-arab wars together .
Israel actually did a big favour for arab countries by uniting them all against israel , and yet arab states kept fighting eachother all along .Comment
